IT strikes me as odd that the University of the Philippines, especially its “militant” community, is quick to point out excesses in government and in the private sector but is slow in taking action in cases of fraternity hazing.
To my mind, there is no clear justification for violence especially for those who only seek a semblance of affiliation and brotherhood in an academic community such as UP. Perhaps university officials should start to crack the whip on these fraternities, if only to show that it can serve justice to victims of hazing in the same way the university community calls for transparency and honest-to-goodness governance.

Let us not generalize the GREEK Societies of UP. Not all incorporate hazing in their initiation rights. I am a UP Student and I also belong to a fraternity. My fraternity does not see the point and connection of “physical violence” and/to brotherhood; hence, the absence of hazing.

how we can stop the many victims of hazing is nasa government yan, the gov’t has a role also to solve this issue.. another s since we can’t avoid some fraternities of their hazing then at least we are already aware of the consequences if we we’ll still continue joining it… the issues made us aware at least that we’re not safe even in our alma mater… individual awareness is also important….

Whats wrong is our set up. We allow those hazings. Why not change the whole regents everytime an indication of hazing is in the offing.

Fraternities should be ban in schools.
