Are Filipinos gullible?

IF we take the Philippines’ political events onto the world stage, it definitely shows that Filipinos are gullible. It seems that they buy into all kinds of lies being peddled, especially by authorities.

Let’s take the “cash gift” as an example. When it was first brought up by Governor Panlilio, nobody wanted to admit that it actually happened. The poor governor looked like he concocted a story to gain media mileage. However, it turned out that many actually received a bagful of money. While nobody was quick to come out and take responsibility for it, now everybody is eager to acknowledge that they are the source. But why only now? Will the people buy these now?

If they do, Filipinos are indeed gullible. If lies are peddled by sidewalk vendors struggling to bring food on the table, it is understandable. But if governors and congressmen, looked upon as trustworthy and transparent, do not tell the truth, what hope do we have as a country? If the things that are happening [took place] in other countries, many of these government officials would have already resigned their post. They value their names and honor more than their positions and the mighty peso.

What else can be done when the heart is already callous? The only thing left to be done is to institute a moral revolution. This should start from the people and not from the present set of elected officials. In the next election, forget the name and the political affiliation. Rather, vote for those who are least in the eyes of men but great in the eyes of God — the honest, the truthful, the ones who are willing to become servants of all, those who treat their office as a position of trust and thus are willing to give it up when accused of irregularities. May God bless the Philippines.

Accept the fact the corruption will never go away. It’s happening everywhere. We only notice or give so much attention those committed by known personalities. But even the “masa” is practicing it too.

It is in our blood. Kasalanan ito ni Eva. Nagpasuhol sya sa ahas, kaya ayun ang namana nating ugali.

Some will not agree with this. Because they don’t believe in Adam & Eve story. They prefer to believe Charles Darwin, kasi kita naman nila ang ebidensya sa salamin eh. hehehe

It is not a question of gullibility but rather of having been immersed in a culture that practices “utang na loob” existing since the Hispanic era. If you go to the barrios, you would undoubtedly hear of conversations about favors being requested from the mayor by the barangay captains or by a kumpare from the governor. It is how Filipinos live their lives and it is an Asian trait. What is unfortunate is that this practice of “utang na loob” has seeped into our political practices and is being used to keep those in position or to gain support when seeking an electoral post. Our election is a very glaring example. The Malacañang event is simply a variation of our election circus and it will never end unless we, as citizens, change our ways. If the government is truly the people, then, it is within our power to change how we do our politics.

Hopefully the U.S. economy will collapse soon, and the good people of the U.S. (they’re still out there) will reject corrupt war mongering government, unscrupulous bankers and Wall St. con-men, and the shallowness of Hollywood. They will return to a simpler life and the values and morals that made them prosper in previous times. This will also affect the philippines, because when the U.S. economy collapses, the rest of the world will go down too, meaning no more OFW jobs. Without the opportunity for filipinos to escape, you finally are forced to confront your problems. Will filipinos finally put aside garbage such as papaya dances, otso otso, boom tarat whatever the fuck it is, mindless entertainment, fake wannabe gangsterism, colonial mentality, crab mentality, etc. Will they begin to realize that their own country has everything for them, and that there was no reason to emigrate. May a righteous government finally rule, and an attitude change among the people.

i would say that there are 2 things preventing this country ever becoming as successful as it’s other neighbors:
    corruption & religion.

the corruption is going to be a pretty hard virus to tackle.
religion should have no part in a government.

get those 2 things right, and i can clearly see the filipino peoples making their country the success story of the next century
