Then what?

I AM no fan of GMA. I abhor what’s going on in Philippine government and politics now, but I choose to see things from a higher plane.

I often wonder, if GMA is so evil and corrupt, why is GDP growth the highest in 31 years? Why is inflation in the low 2 percent? Why is the peso at P40.50 [to the dollar]? The problem with many is they think corruption can go away overnight. Why don’t we try to place ourselves in Malacañang and imagine funding a P6-billion presidential campaign, a P200-million-per-senator campaign, P20 million per congressional bet, local, etc., etc. from our own pockets?

We drag GMA out of Malacañang and you think all our problems are over. Haven’t you considered the biggest potential winners in such a scenario are the rightist military or the extreme left? Sadly, we may be playing to the tune of rightist and leftist power grabbers… and unknowingly leading the nation to the way of Burma!

Unfortunately, GMA is about the best this rotten political system can produce. She is a small part of the problem. Someone said the opposition can’t seem to gain any headway because nobody is above the fray. Of course no politician is above the fray. They are all part of this extremely flawed political system. To fix the system, we must first work long and hard to attain an economy that will support a principled political system. The only way there is sustained economic growth. Somewhere along [the way], we change the electoral system so one does not have to steal or sacrifice his/her principles to get elected and do his/her mandate.

After a sustained 10-year growth, for example, government may be able to partially reimburse election expenses. It will be able to pay government employees wages that afford basic necessities and more dignified lives. By then, ordinary Filipinos can afford to donate part of their growing disposable incomes to help elect competent and principled leaders.

My call to media and so-called moralists: Think!

Everything carried to the extreme is self-defeating. Yes, even our constitutionally guaranteed right to rally, if carried to the extreme, is also self-defeating. Not to mention nakakapagod at nakakasawa na tingnan.

You should organize yourselves into a political party and directly take part in governance. Our rotten system will certainly not change if you’re always whining in the streets. Always preferring to criticize everyone in power rather than dirty your own hands in Government.

I for one honestly believe that some in the throng of people I always see on TV in Mendiola are more than capable of effectively running the affairs of the Government. The tragedy is that their minds are caged in outdated che-revolutionary mentality.

    Yes, tragic indeed.

You’re too much of a perfectionist Maria Makiling. Too much for the current realities.

I wonder, how many castles in the sky do you have now? So you would rather have Ping Lacson as President? Haay..

    Hoy gising!

    Then what?

And Thai military love for their country is overwhelming after the coup d etat they immediately form a take-over govt and initiate a national election asap. With those instances, Thai economy is stronger than ever parang walang nangyari because they are for peoples welfare and protector of the best interest for Thailand. Imagine PM Thaksin is the man behind Thailand economic transformation and only one corruption scandal ruins his reputation as a good leader.
Dito sa atin, patong patong na ang scandal, anomalies and controversies pero marami pa rin ang patuloy na nagbubulag-bulagan at manhid sa karaingan ng sambayaan at patuloy na ginigiit na si gma ang still best option, and siguro kung gusto natin na patuloy na danasin ang paghihikahos at paghihirap gma is the best options with the help of malacanang mafia and arroyo corrupt-poration.
If she is morally incapable to lead our country, lets initiate regime change for our countrys future not tomorrow but now is the time. Maawa ka sa mga anak mo kung tunay kang nagmamahal sa bayan and then what? A better Phillippines for us and our childrens future.
