On Philippine claim over Sabah

03/28/08

Posted under Feedback

the DFA should be careful sa nga gagawin nila, baka ma jupardize nanaman ang established claim natin sa Sabah.

The Philippines should make an action, letter of communique to Malaysia, to boost the Philippine claim over Sabah.

The Philippines should assert that Malaysia should observe the STATUS of Sabah, with regards to Ownership of the territory before deporting Filipinos.

Malaysia if fearful about Sabah Issue

    source:http://www.nst.com.my/Current_News/NST/Sunday/National/2280082/Article/index_html

Q: During one meeting in Parliament at the last session, one MP said there were so many immigrants in Sabah now that there actually was a danger of these naturalized citizens asking for Sabah to become a part of the Philippines, or to vote not to have Sabah as part of Malaysia. Is that a realistic fear?
A: We cannot tell what’s in the hearts of men or what’s in the future.
Don’t forget that the Philippines has not given up its claims on Sabah. If you look at the Philippines map, Sabah is part of the Philippines.
The Philippines has refused to set up a consulate in Sabah, because that would be seen as acknowledging that it is Malaysian territory.
When people talk about this, they are talking about a future fear. We cannot dismiss it outright. And, therefore, we must have prudence in our immigration policies and our policy towards citizenship.
I would welcome workers to the country; I would even welcome people who apply for citizenship. But a clear-cut policy must be made: how many can we accept?
And they must get citizenship through the front door, not the back door.
Look at the people who become citizens of Australia and America. It’s a proud day for a citizen; there’s a tea party to welcome you, you recite the oath of allegiance and you sing the national anthem.
But we don’t hear of these sort of things in Sabah. Overnight, they become citizens.

Sabah was been lawfully Claimed by the Filipino People and HM, King Anthony Santiago Martin handled all documentary claims that affirming the full ownership of the Filipino People over said extended properties. UN has already known this fact and Filipino People must be happy because HM, King Anthony Santiago Martin handled fact that this territory was been reaffirmed by Malaysian Government as Property of the People of the Philippine Islands.

    Our Fatherland includes Sabah
June 19th, 2008 by Juan Guerra | Posted in Fatherland |
We have heard the talk in the past about the territory of Sabah, jointly held by Indonesia and Malaysia, and that past governments have desired to bring it into the fold of our beloved Fatherland. However due to the incessant bickering of our political parties no move to reclaim our territory has ever been made, instead idle posturing and saber rattling is all that resulted.
The Samahan will instead pursue a rigorous policy of expansion into the territory of Sabah, not only that our government shall reclaim it, but that it will also be repopulated by Pilipino (Filipino) nationalists. It is intrinsic that once we hold Sabah we must displace the squatter population there and repatriate the entire area with our people in order to hold our claim.
Now many ask does this mean war? Of course not, we are a civilized nation and an intellectual party, which means that though we prepare for the terrible chance of war, in actual fact we wish only for peaceful negotiations. We will work with the Indonesian and Malaysian governments and work out trade deals or financial restitution in return for the land. Yes we know that this land was ours, that we should simply take it by force and damn the consequences. But this makes not only for bad foreign policy but also senseless death of countless Pilipino (Filipino) citizens.
Some claim that because we desire a strong military and that we will fight for the rights of our people that this means our first action will always be war. No my friends peaceful negotiation must always be the first course of action when working with other nations. The fact that Sabah was ours will lend heavy weight to all our negotiations both regionally and internationally, and that will make it easier for us when we work with our allies to come to a final resolution regarding our national sovereignty.
But to what end is the reclaiming of Sabah going to further the Fatherland and our people? Land my friends, it is about living space and breathing room for our national community, land that we need to house and feed our ever-growing population. Instead of facing a nation that will be over crowded and starved for food, with the inclusion of Sabah we will have vast new territories to spread out in and to farm and feed the Fatherland.
With Sabah we will have a drive to the frontiers, land for those without their own, those that live in Manila, the so called “squatters”, will be allowed to travel to Sabah and claim land for free as their own from which they can farm and not only feed their families but help feed the nation. This will relieve much of the pressure on Manila and the resources that the city has at their disposal. The poor will be given a chance to create strong and better lives, with aid from our government and a new series of developmental banks that will provide training and funding to build massive tracks of agricultural lands.
OF course we must take precautions ahead of time to protect from slash and burn policies that the Malays and Indonesians have practiced for years. Killing of the natural world, wiping out animals and plant life that may one day yield beneficial harvests in the medical world. Even the pollution from these slash and burn policies have affected the health and well being of our people in the Philippines, the smoke and carcinogens have made their way to our cities causing worse health risks to our nation then were already there.
No for us the inclusion of Sabah is not only going to be a massive economic boon to all our people, to our agricultural industry, but it will also be a huge boost to our national morale helping to spur on the national economy and bringing the standard of living up for our entire nation. Sabah belongs to us; we must take it back as our historical and divine right. The land belongs to us and it is unjust in the best of light that it continues to be used by foreign governments that wrongfully took away our sovereign rights. We will accept nothing short of repatriation to the Fatherland, though we will work with these nations peacefully to achieve such goals.
Brothers the time has come to watch our nation expand well beyond its borders, to what once was the Philippines of the past. Before cowardly imperialists gave away that which was not theirs to begin with to pay of other foreign governments. It is time that these nations made right the wrongs from the past, to pay back what they have taken from us, and it is time for the rest of the world to recognize the sovereign rights of the Fatherland.

If ever ma-revive ang claim ng Sabah at bigyan ito pansin ng ICJ, which is never because it requires the MUTUAL CONSENT of the parties, ang SOVEREIGNTY AND TERRITORIAL JURISDICTION ng Pilipinas mismo ang ma-open for discussion kasi ang nagmamay-ari ng Sabah ay mga Moro (Bangsamoro), ang Sultanate ng Sulu. At the time na sovereign pa ang Sultan of Sulu, PROTECTORATE ang status ng Sultanate of Sulu under Spain and in the Kiram-Bates Treaty under the US colonial administration. At saka, may dalawang submarino ang Malaysia, meron pa silang F-18 at Mig-29 at maraming indigenous Frigates and Patrol boats. Mabuti pang asikasuhin na lang natin ang Pilipinas na maging matatag at bigyan natin ng hustisya ang mga Bangsamoro sa ginawa natin sa kanila pag-agaw ng kanilang lupa at sovereignty at dignidad as First Nations and Indigenous Peoples just like what Australia, Canada, New Zealand and even the US (katulad pagbigay nila ng “sovereign dependent nations” status sa mga American Indians na binigyan nila ng kanilang teritoryo sa American Indian Reservations) did in recognizing their indigenous or First Nations prior rights.

Yes, you are saying that we are dreaming. Why can’t you just be patriotic? If all Filipinos will be like you, the country would really have no hope. So unfortunate. Not because we dont have military presence in Sabah, it would mean we dont have the rightful right. If that would be the legal opinion, then we would be back in times of the Roman, where the mighty rules, and with that, all lands would be owned by eithe US or Russia who have several bases world wide.

The question is, can we afford conflict with Malasia ? With the likes of Marcos around, I would say, Yes we can. With Gloria, we would have a NIL chances. Our Land never easily succomb to military intervention in the past. We fight the mighty and the great. We fight the Spaniards, the Japanese, the American. All are wordl power of their time. Can we not fight the Malaysian ? If we can not, then we just better hide in our Lola’s skirt and runs away. There would be no place on us here on earth.

Marcos during those time replaces Macapagal, who will replace now Macapagal II ? Do we need new Marcos ?

I am helping Malaysia get richer by working for them. Sabah is getting richer because of its vast oil deposits. What can the Philippines do? Malaysians just laugh at us for being poor, maids, nannies, our accents (as if their accents are not funny, even worse). What the Philippines should do is to regain whatever Glory we had before. Improve our image. Stop all bickerings and work toward progress. If we’re only politically stable, peaceful, then there’s no doubt we can get all the investment money we need to compete against our once poor neighbor Malaysia. Living in Malaysia has made me cry a lot for our country. I argue, educate people about what went wrong with the Philippines, and telling them that there’s hope. Is there really? Sorry for veering into another topic.

Just because Sabah belongs to the sulatn of Sulu does not mean that it “must” be part of the Philippines. You see, the Sabahans voted in favor of Malaysia back then. The issue therefore should be between the Family of the Sultan of Sulu and Malaysia. It should not be politicized by the Philippines.

Granting that the Philippines won the claim over Sabah yet most Sabahans don’t want to be part of the Philippine yet they don’t want to leave Sabah for the Malay Peninsula, what will we do, papalayasin sila? Aapihin sila?

Some say one reason Malaysia doesn’t want to let go of Sabah is because it is rich in natural resources. Isn’t it that is the very same reason why the Philippines is after Sabah! We are hiding in disguise of “it belongs to the sultan of Sulu”. Had Sabah been like Taiwan, Japa or Korea, which are not rich in natural resources, I doubt the Philippines will pursue its claim.

Look in the 70’s we would have been the third Nuclear power in Asia after Japan and China but the Morong Nuclear plant was corrupted by Marcos cronies. Malaysia is more capable of invading us. We have a rightful claim over Sabah but negotiations with Malaysia will be of no use now, are we ready to enter into an armed conflict and take it by force? Can we win? If that happens, will the world opinions be in our favor?

  43. 33
    pedro Says:

Malaysia has a robust economy than the Philippines. Their per capita income is more than $10,000., while the Philippines is less than $3,000. That means the people of Sabah are three times more productive than the Filipinos.

There is no historical and legal evidence that Sabah belongs to the Philippines. The Sultan of Sulu never had an established army of soldier and civil servant to put a series of outpost in the hinterlands of Sabah to legitimize their claim, just like the early chinese and the Romans who created legitimacy to their claim by keeping an army in a territory. Spain created a legitimate claim of the Philippines to the Europeans by showing a powerful standing army and signed treaty with other colonist. The Sultan of Sulu is not a Sultan of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, does he even exist, if he does it is his problem to claim his lost throne and territory. He already lost the territory of Sulu to the Philippines.

It is very clear in Geography that Sabah belong to the island of Borneo. There should be a Royal Republic of Borneo not Malaysia and Indonesia.

We already have so many problems in our country, problems that is so easy to solved but our elected official keeps on dragging all this problems.

Sabah is not worth fighting for, in fact Sabah would rather invade us and claim us as their servants, nanny, dh, and sex slave.

  44. 32
    Allan, SYD Says:

It is not rocket science. Sabah belongs to the Philippines via the Sultanate of Sulu. Philippines has a legit claim over the area. The Malaysians will do whatever it takes to deny us that claim. So as Hongkong is part of China, Sabah is certainly part of the Philippines.

  45. 31
    tom Says:

kung ang buong issue ng sabah claim is about territory/sovereignty, malakas ang habol natin based on the history of the sultanate of sulu which can ba traced back early on the 17th century.

    in the annals of history:

1906 & 1920 - nag remind pa ang US sa great britain na ng sabah ay hindi pagaari ng crown kundi sa sultanate ng sulu. nagbingi-bingihan lang ang GB.

may ruling and high court of north borneo nung 1939 that handed ownership of sabah to the sultanate of sulu.

all of these on top of the token $1500 rental fees paid by the malaysia govt to the heirs yearly.

sabah people looks happy and contented under malaysia. and none of them probably would want to assume a filipino citizenship and be among her woes. so ang tanong, kailangan ba ang opinion ng mga mamamayan ng isang lugar kung aling bansa sila gustong mapabilang?

ang malala pa, baka sa pagpupumulit natin na kunin ang sabah at pabayaan lang din kagaya ng pagpapabaya natin sa mindanao eh baka mapilitan ang sulu na mag secede at buu-in na lang separately ang Sultanate of Sulu and Sabah. that might have chain reaction sa buong ARMM and we might be at risk in losing all mindanao and palawan to that.

ang malungkot eh technically kung sa atin nga ang sabah, tingnan nyo kung papano nagmumukhang iskwater ang mga pinoy na nag tatrabaho dun. it wasn’t so long ago nung nakita natin sa news ang maraming pinoy nag pinag ra-round up sa sabah for being called “illegal workers” while the people of sabah does not feel any assimilation at all sa pinas.

It wasn’t my intention to offend anybody regarding my earlier post. Kaya lang kasi nakakainis yung fact na may taong magsasabi na kalimutan na lang natin yung claim natin over Sabah pero di naman nya sinasabi kung bakit (pertaining to Ayessa). Lumalabas kasi na baseless yung opinion nya. I have nothing against those people saying that we should forget the Sabah issue, at least they’ve provided the reasons why they think so.

As nationalist Filipino, we must support our claim to Sabah. It is our legitimate right that it belongs to us as evidenced by the continued payment of lease by Malaysia to the Sultanate of Jolo. Only because of conspiracy by the East India Company that it was incorporated in the formation of Federation of Malaysia that it comes into being part of Malaysia intead of the Philippines.
If only we have incorruptible leaders that can pursue this mission of recovery through diplomatic, legal and persuasion or sale if need be.
But before this, we must have to attain: Firstly;Patriotic Filipinos, Robust economy, Strong Military, Peace all over the archipelago (No insurgents/rebels), Employment for every citizen and food for every table in each household.
Secondly; Initiate dialogues with Malaysia with the participation of the Sultanate of Jolo on means to resolve this issue. At the same time another approach is to go to the U.N. or the International Court and diplomatic approaches with our ASEAN friends to pressure Malaysia to give in.

Only by exhausting all this approaches that we can truly stand to the world community that Filipinos are but one, undivided and will pursue what rightfully belongs to the motherland.

There are things that are easier said than done, but this should not stop us from claiming what is rightfully ours. Kailangang nga lang maging mabusisis ang ating mga mambabatas at isipin nila kung ano yung magiging pinaka-advantageous for the our country in terms of establishing our sovereign rights over disputed territories. Mahirap kung mag-eengage tayo sa war just to defend our claims over such territories since we don’t have military supremacy over other claimants. We just have to use existinginternational laws to our utmost advantage in setting our baselines. Dun naman sa iba nating kababayan, sana naman ay bigyang pansin din nila ang ganitong issue tulad ng concern na meron sila over the newest gadgets and other mundane things.

At least malaysia is at least 100 times weaker in military strength compare to China or vietnam. We do have a fighting chance to get it back. With Sabah, we have all the legal claims both undocumented or documented. With Sabah , there is already proven oil and mineral reserve as with Spratley its more on hula hula basis.

Let us give up our claim to Sabah. At the rate corruptions in our country is going on, I don’t think we have anything better to offer to the people of Sabah. Our politicians doesn’t have the quality to govern. They are short sighted, they don’t have any long range planning, and our politicians are more interested on how they can short change their citizen.

Just look at the budget they have enacted. One thrillion and two hundred billion pesos. They think that by passing this budget, and without realizing where to get this gargantuan amount, they have already achieve there goal.

What do you read in the newspaper? A president that gives away one billion for military housings, in order to buy their loyalty; in the afternoon, another one billion and a half to buy certfied seeds (as thugh their is enough supply of certified seeds in the first place), and then another 3 billion for food supply (what ever it means).

These is a stop-gap measure, not worthy to a lame-duck president, one who has been travelling all over the globe, and then, and then, out of nowhere, she is face with rice crisis.

Sabah, by any yardstick, has overpass us in commerce and governance. It is a very progressive province, (if that is how you call it.), and to be controlled by a very inefficient governance, will definitely be an insult to them.

Let us keep our dirty linen among our self. They deserve something better than our type of corrupt and inefficient governance.

Come to think of it, the killing season of innocent victims is going on again. Victims are not only killed, they are dismembered and “chop-chop.”

Yet, our government doesn’t even raise their eye-brow on these occurance, Are they too calouse, that they have no more concience of what is happening around them? Where are our Bishops? Are they too blind to these killings aroundl the?

    God save our country!

This claim to Sabah is ridiculous…

The Philippines cannot even control the territory that it has…how would they expect to control wild Sabah?

Better yet, how would they expect to defeat the military of Malaysia? They could not even defeat the tribes running around the jungles of Sabah, much less a disciplined, organized and professional military, which the AFP is not.

More arrogant saber rattling of an empty scabbard.

Instead of having dreams of grandeur that will NEVER be fulfilled, much like controlling the Spratly Islands, perhaps the Filipinos time would be better spent concentrating on something simple, like feeding their own people.

It is really very distressing to hear what is
    happening in the country today.

Awhile ago, an alarming news that there was a rice shortage in the country, sending panic to our kababayan trying to buy one ganta of rice with patis and bagoong as ulam.
Before, it was the sumilao farmers in the news not eating rice because they are fasting to dramatize their plight about the land they till, should be the land they own.
As corn is the staple of our kababayan bisaya that made manny pacquiao a strong boxer, again an alarming news of shortage supply of corn.
now, comes the news that sabah a different kind of banana not as sweet as solo or lakatan, or bangalan of latundan, is now in the news that we should claim sovereignty against our neighbor after so hundred years.

do you know why this is happening? as we are in basic shortage of our staple foods.
Thais studied agriculture in our UP los banos and they now harvesting and selling a famous brand call Milagrosa rice in Seafood store in Los Angeles California.Miracle really happens.
When I was in the philippines, i used to see hectares and hectares of green and carabao all the way from Batangas highway to Laguna up to Manila when you smell bad air.
Also, from bulacan all the way to pampanga a green scenery.

where have all the green palay and carabao along the highways?
now all the palays became palmera, camella, all flowers.
Better ask Manny Villar, maybe he has the answer instead of being an instigator in the NBN investigation.

    Efren Ranile Says:

Sabah is absolutely part of the Philippine territory since time immemorial and should be taken back because Malaysia illegally annexed it and our brilliant leaders are just fence setters when that country robbed our nation.
But how we will do it? since Marcos already dropped the claim because of fear for Malaysian retaliation by possible supporting Moro rebellion in the south, and used it for bargaining in hiring more Filipino workers in Malaysia.
The Philippines became so weak militarily, economically and politically because our resources are drained by corruption and our focus shifted more on non-stop political bickerings, while our neighbors are busy building up their economies and playing around with our sovereignty, to the point that we lost our moral stand on how to defend our territories.
Are we going to continue this downsided path towards destruction as a nation orchestrated by our corrupt political system? Now, China wants the Spratlys, then what? are we just going to watch them robbing us again?

Sabah can be distributed to those farmers rallying at the DAR and others primarily all those that were deported by Malaysia from that place to increase our rice production. Japan went to war just to get more turf for her food. Esperon is flexing his muscle for the defense of the Spratly, why not show his mettle to get Sabah. Diplomacy is already a thing of the past for the Philippines. Time to use brute force rather than kill ourselves of hunger and idiocy standing.

I believe, this part of the country’s legacy must be included in the country’s curriculum program….history and foreign relations. There must be a solid core of foreign Filipino correspondents who must focus on this issue and write about them regularly in our newspapers, especially in dialects or Pilipino so that more Filipinos can participate and join in their discussions. Tagalugin na lang at hindi yung pirming pa-inglis dahil sa we are excluding the very people who must learn about them…..who mostly have not gone beyond the college degree like the youths in the cities.

The strength of the nation lies in the hands of ALL THE PEOPLE. Barely 25% of the Filipinos have functional english literacy. Ang mga tao sa kaparangan ng Philippines cannot join in, and do not get the knowledge and information they needed. Kaya, it is no wonder they do not understand why they should not sell their votes. Para lang silang mga multo na nagsisigalaw pero walang naiintindihan sa ating pagiging bansa, in relation to other foreign countries. Their idea of foreign aggression is still colonial period, yung mga foreign power attacking the islands. They have no idea that with a stroke of a pen, among thieves and traitors, their very own country and the future of their children can be sold at such a pittance, a little secret commission stashed in some accounts of these thieves in foreign countries like the United States….to be more exact, an account with brokerage houses. Anong naiintindihan ng mga Filipino about this corruption? Wala. Pero, magandang pakinggan pag si Gloria nagtalumpati na…but they are all designed, again, to dupe the people.

Condoning a liar and a cheat as the head of a government has a very deleterious consequences. And however rosy Gloria’s economic reports are…nobody should allow themselves to be duped repeatedly. Just look at the haggard faces lining up the USA and other foreign embassies to escape poverty in the country…and just look around how inept public officials are that they could not bring their agencies to function so that the bottom dwellers get relief. Look at the unresolved allegations of corruptions surrounding her and her cronies. Look at the spiraling downhill quality of education in the country. Count how many Filipino children can go all the way up to 6th grades. Count how many teachers can teach well, in both Pilipino and English. Cronyism is alive and well in the country: the reason why the inept with lots of loyalty to Gloria are now riding high and mighty. No wonder, the Philippines is not even mentioned or recommended for tourists to visit by foreign travel agencies. Report about the lack of sanitary toilets of majority of the Filipinos was made, not by Filipinos but by World Agency overseeing health, sanitation, and nutrition in the underdeveloped countries. Whatever good news to come out about the Filipinos abroad, it is the work of individual Filipino, with the help of their parents and well-adhered to Filipino values, not because of the prevailing situation of corruptions in the Philippines. The well-deserving, hard working Filipinos are really working very hard in order to maintain the respect of other people when in foreign countries. They have to fight that impression that is now pervading the sub-consciousness of foreigners that Filipinos are more corrupt, dishonest, and low-lifers as the political situation in the Philippines suggests. Meanwhile Gloria will continue in her effort to cover up corruptions and ineptness of her cronies by delivering rosy speeches about the economy.

The Philippines as a sovereign country is very weak. She is depleted of knowledgeable, capable, meritorious public servants. This is worse than a dysfunctional military. Qualified and good teachers in the country are getting schemed off to teach difficult children in USA cities. The numbers of good, qualified teachers, like the public servants, are also getting depleted. Combining all the depletions in all human resources sectors of the country, it is worse than having to be bombed or destroyed by a foreign enemy. The lack of opportunities for the true capable, meritorious Filipinos is driving them away and who are left behind? Filipinos who are opening the country for more plundering, this time, to foreign enemies, after they have done their own plundering of their own country for lack of appreciation for what matters to safeguard the sovereignty of the country.
