On San Beda law dean calling senators ‘childish’

AS a law dean, this priest from San Beda should stop making comments such as calling senators childish.

First of all, as a law dean he should refrain from making comments unless he speaks for the whole San Beda law school. As a priest, he should reserve his comments to himself unless he wants to go into politics. As a regular reactor to news publications, he should do so but not under the cloak as a priest or as a dean. Then I will welcome his comments.

Please don’t mock your school name or your students. And calling the senators childish reminds me of my teachers in grade school. Yes, we deserved then to be called childish but calling the senators at this time childish for doing their jobs is a behavior that this priest dean has not overcome yet, his being at one time a grade school teacher. If you want to be a regular critic for or against political issues, unless you want to compromise your position as dean, then stop addressing yourself as priest dean.

Meanwhile, the reaction of the senators to the Supreme Court decision is normal since the Senate is a co-equal body under our Constitution. The SC decision drew a lot of reactions from the public as well as private sector. What I have learned from my political science professors is that the SC ’s role is merely to interpret the law and to keep in mind that the rationale behind such law is to protect the Constitution and to protect the interest of all and not one person who in this case is the appellant. The SC decision unless reversed will send signals from hereon that it’s all right to report a crime and then cover it up by invoking executive privilege.

Under our present laws, if you deliberately engage in a cover-up of a crime then you are equally liable for it even though you did not commit it. I rest my case and I hope this priest dean would do the same.

    To Rex Roberto,

So you are a lawyer huh? So what’s the Senate job then? To legislate or to act like a judicial body? Granting that part, (let me emphasize that just a small part) of their job is to investigate in aid of legislation, can you tell me what laws were legislated on account of the never ending investigations conducted? Jueteng, wiretapping, election fraud, NBN, Jose Pidal, etc…. I am only enumerating the sensational investigations. No law has yet been passed. Correction, no bill has yet been filed on matters concerning these investigations. And who were put behind bars on account of these investigations?

It takes not a lawyer alone to know that in deciding cases, usually majority rules. Kahit taong kanto alam ang ganito. That you now ascribe innuendos concerning the SC just because your expected decision did not materialize speaks volume of who and what you are as a lawyer. Didn’t they teach you in law school that decisions of the Supreme Court no matter how much we do not agree become binding to all and should be respected?

If we cannot respect judicial decisions, what else is remaining? No wonder the country is such in an anarchaic state. Or maybe, we just have too many lawyers in the country that’s why we never progress. Nope. It’s not because of GMA but because of people who cannot seem to reconcile that decisions that go agaisnt the popular sentiments are not worth the paper they were written. And off to the streets to echo just how “beholden” most justices are to the appointing power. But the same people are so profuse in singing hossanahs to a GMA appointee who shows “independence” because the vote he made coincide with their expectations. This self-righteousness in our midst is too sickening because it does not allow for an opposite opinion that can earn the respect of the self-righteous.

Don’t ever forget that Erap was ousted & not impeached. It was the job of the Senate to impeach a sitting President but they failed to rise above partisan affiliations that resulted in EDSA 2 eventually. Most of the Senators who were dismal failures in Erap’s time are the same Senators now lording it over the investigations. Is it because of the purity of their intentions? Tell that to the marines. It’s all for the 2010 elections. the search for truth is only incidental to the investigations.

I am really amazed at the stupidity of most Filipinos. Believing that politicians are there to find the truth or is there to be their knight in shining armor is totally ridiculous. And some of these people considered themselves as educated. That’s what you get from getting information from a biased änd paid media.

I wonder why the original poster is so irked with the San Beda priest who I find to be the only one in the news who is fair and reasonable. This is the problem with most Filipinos nowadays. They are quick to judge other people if the media (idiots) made bold claims in the news which sadly most of the time are derived from ünnamed sources” (probably Ping Lacson or some dude in dark glasses and baseball cap) which they will then preach as the truth. Then politicians (wolves) would join the fray just to get the most media mileage so they get elected by the Filipino people (morons).

I strongly believe the Philippines is already going to the dogs. Our only hope is that a magnitude 9.0 earthquake hits the Batasan building during a SONA so that most of our politicians and media both get buried when it collapses.

    Mr Rex Roberto….

You are a lawyer you said….it seems to me that you are a judge as well….what an irony, you are a lawyer and you are supposed to know that you need hard evidence before making conclusions….

Fortunately…I no longer have trusts to lawyers…specially lawyers like you….you are an idiot..for you said the senate is the only institution doing their job….you are ignorant…you should give up your license in law…

NO POLITICIAN IS DOING THEIR JOBS…BECAUSE IF THEY WERE DOING THEIR JOBS…MAAYOS NA SANA ANG PAMUMUHAY NG MGA PILIPINO!!!!

If you ask me, there’s nothing wrong calling the senator’s childish!

Mrs. Arroyo was called far worse!

What’s really unsettling is how this person who appeared on television and always gave interviews, and represent the school he’s teaching and the priesthood. To make it appear that what he was saying are clearly from legal point of view and unbiased!

The listening to him, would make you think otherwise!

Why don’t you just get it out in the public and say you’re lawyering for Mrs. Arroyo.

    Let’s call a spade a spade!

I guess there’s nosense in arguing what the letters of law said about Executive Privilege is?!

Those pro-Gloria and Neri would agree with the majority decision of the SC.

Those Anti-Gloria and for the so called truth, would concur with the dissenting opinion penned by Chief Justice Puno, and the other Justices of the SC.

Then other factors would come in, such credibilities, their loyaties, character, etcs!

I just want to tell you a story, as a law student somewhere in Mandaluyong. My professor. who claimed to be a drinking buddy(calssmate) of one of the Justices,of one our Court’s!
Told us, the first thing he learned from his professor and about handling cases in courts.

You should always ask your client if he has money to give to fix his case!

    That’s a fucking turn-off!
Hearing this person talking about our court’s that way!

    Bad company corrupts, Good character!

My professor graduated from San Beda law school.
