Dead rivers in RP

04/08/08

Posted under Feedback

I THINK the government can and must do more to educate people on proper waste disposal and recycling.

Some places in the Philippines are observed to be a giant trash pit and because of individual habit and the “don’t care” attitude, more money is being used when calamities such as floods come. Furthermore, it’s a huge health issue which concerns everyone and costs the government millions.

Educate! Educate! Educate! Educate the masses. Provide social (barangay) seminars in all levels of society.

    Congressman Says:

As I said, our colleagues in the House are surrendered to lack of resources and we’ve received nothing from Pork Barrel and GMA announces to us to keep those money she’d given to us quiet because she admitted before us that the Philippine Government has reduced collection of taxes after she forcefully implemented E-VAT where this is illegal and never approved by HM, King Anthony S. Martin but her allies in the World Bank Resident Mission Office in Pasig City welcomed this illegal move that we inadequately disagreed and we experienced reap of illegal activities of GMA when the whole Filipino communities suffered to continuous hike of all basic commodities. Let us admit that we have no money to pay GMA government for their own pastimes and let us admit to sit our new Head of State, HM, King Anthony S. Martin.

i think that we can still “possibly” revive the dead rivers that we have here in Phil esp. pasig river. we just need a tremendous discipline and care. garbage are meant for trash can. and you know what im thinking ryt now, the president should do something about the people residing on the side of the river. the number one source of waste or trash are coming from the people who lived there. i absolutely agree,, educate!! educate!!! educate!!! do some seminars and dazzle the people about the beauty that could posibly the river can give for us!!!

You can continue your crusade until 2010 up to the minutes that you will vote whose going to drain our country again!

Let go of that feeling and focus on things that will immediately have an effect to the majority like lowering mine, yours, your relatives, the peoples’ bill on ELECTRICITY AND OIL.

Not only dead in term of Environment and healt. Dead for agriculture, too.

I don’t want to appear a Kontrabida but “Rice self suffeciency by 2010”, appears to be grandiose projection if not wishful thinking. State can only try. I think the projection is divorced of realism. Even if State pours all available resources towards that goal, the earliest that rice self sufficiency can be attained in this country is probably decades away.

Miracle rice was developed by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in Los Baños, Laguna in the time of President Ferdinand. E. Marcos. It’s been all IR-Series Miracles since then. The Thais learned about rice in Laguna, Philippines. Maybe we have not seen the mother of all Miracles by IRRI yet.

Meanwhile, with our rain forests gone we are experiencing water shortages. What good are levees that are dry? In most part of the country, mechanized irrigation has to be employed by the time of the second cropping. We have that situation in most part of Negros Island. And I saw the same situation in Palawan as early as the mid 1990s. With rain forests gone and many rivers and or tributaries dry in summer, third cropping has become impossible in those places. In places where there is no asurance of a successful second cropping, farmers are prompted to plant corn or others after the first crop. The situations could be nationwide.

sTUPID EXECITIVE BRANCH OF THE GOVERNMENT. Just a while ago, I talk to a new councilor who run for the administration. He said that out of ten positions, nine was won by opposition, and he was the only councilor on the administration side.

In fact, he said, “He has no loyalty to which ever party he is in. All he wants is to be transparent, and to serve the people.”

And our conversation touches the rice crisis.

He said, the rice crisis is just concoc by PGMA to divert the attention from the ‘ Jun Lozada’s exposy to the NTZ deal”

And he said, that the declararlion of the Lap-dog Director Arthur Yap “rice crisis” has open the gate way of hell. He can no longer stop consequence, like panic buying, speculations, rice hoardings. According the him, Stupid Arthur Yap has ignited a powder keg, and could no longer stop the following events we are in right now.

Remember mount Pinatobo volcano? According to the indiginous people in that place, National Power Corporation, was openning a hole on the ground to explore the possible establishment of a geothermal plant for electric use. What these government people got, was they OPEN THE GATE OF HELL!

But, it was not all bad. The volcano explossion has achieve what our senators and congressman cannot. The volcano drove the Americans in Clark and Subic for good.

What the volcano has achieve, now the senators, and congressman are trying to grab the credit to driving the Americans Military Base away.

Stupid lawmakers. Why not just confind yourself to your own pork barrels, instead of getting the credit from the volcano.

Ha! Ha! Ha! Wala talaga kayong delicadeza! Wala kayong alam kundi waldasin ang pera ng taong bayan.

BTW, dont think that removing Gloria without educating the masses/society of responsible voting will remove the stink. IT WILL NOT!!! it will still stink… If you dont believe me..DOGs already showed an example, no matter how many times they eat their shit, it still stinks everytime they shit it out again. So dont think like a dog!!

  13. 36
    allan Says:

Actually Mrs. Pidal and wonderwoman, the blame shouldnt be on PGMA. We dont blame Pasig river for being polluted, we dont tell Pasig River to flow somewhere else because she stinks and even changing the name of the river will not remove the stinks. We blame the people living at its banks including the factories that dispose their waste into the river. PGMA is like the polluted Pasig River, her govt is corrupt because the society made her so, even if she steps down the stink is still there, because the root cause of this stink is not resolve. So if you dont want to have a stinkin river or govt, educate the society, so they can vote wisely. There are more than 30 million voters, they can only cheat up to 3 million votes the most, if this 30 million voters can support only one deserving candidate, no amount of cheating can beat them. Dont throw your garbage in the river, similarly dont throw your vote on wicked politicians otherwise you will end up with a stinkin river and govt.

i think bayani and mmda are doing their job. it is the people living along the esteros who are to be blamed. because once mmda has dredged the esteros and rivers of their trash, they will throw their garbage again, once mmda has left! isn’t that pathetic?
and then these squatters blame mmda for the stench that the garbage create in the esteros too.
some sectors have alleged that living in the esteros is a source of corruption…those squattrs demand money from govt. first before they evacuate, and they do it for a living!
again, the sense of being “makasarili” and not thinking of the common good..

If the rich’s don’t want the poor people to throw their trash in the street or river they should pick-up the trash that the poor people put in the street. Just like they’re picken up the trash where rich’s people live. Don’t you agree!

Cleaning our environment starts with us and not with the government. We dont throw our grabage in the river thinking its the government responsibility to clean it for us later. And then blame the govt if we see our thrash floating back to our homes. We must have discipline and responsibility if we want to preserve and improve our environment. Our famous “bahala na” system has to stop if we want the country to go positively forward.

As long as even muncipalities just lead their uncleaned waste water into rivers and the sea, people will also not care. It is anyway a philippine manner to just hide trash anywhere, What you can not see is not existing. Look at the many houses with with “wealthy” front sides and all their waste and garbage at the back. It’s not what and how you be, it is how you look….
Many western, european countries have strict rules, gaebage has to be separated into recycle and non-recycle, glass by color, metal, paper, compostible matter etc. And waste water will be cleaned up to drinkable quality before it can be lead to rivers. It is expensive, but avoids higher costs caused by all the dangerous effects of polluted waste and water. Harsh fines make discipline easier…. Here, in contrary, you can see water pumping stations where car wash, animals, garbage are the surrounding.

what we luck is discipline. we need a leader that can instill discipline to everybody. a leader with political will to implement drastic measures for everyone to follow to change our bad habits. a leader that will serve as role model for everybody. a leader that don’t lie, cheat and steal.

Who else you’re going to blame but none other then the FAKE PRESIDENT GLORIA ARROYO. After all she’s the one squatting in Malacanyang Palace for over 7 year’s! Because of her the Philippines economy going down under. So much about her rosy economy. Its a joke!
    **************************************************************

Right it is the Presidents fault we live like pigs including tossing our plastics everywhere we please even if we are riding a Jeepney.

Discipline starts in the home… We learn bad habits and practice them daily by ignoring the laws because they don’t suit us. We take money for votes and we have the Government we deserve.

People need to walk in front of a mirror an see were most of our problems really lie… The person you see in the mirror is the person that accepts the throwing of trash anywhere… accepts the squatters as neighbors and lets them throw urine and feces into our water ways. We also could care less about the environment so we accept illegal logging, and gross amounts of chemical waste being dumped into our water ways by companies large and small.

Wake up people it is OUR Fault we have dead rivers by doing NOTHING in the first place and accepting “the way it has always been!”

If we really want to clean up the mess we MUST do something and get involved. It is a tough struggle and I am part of that struggle. You are not a popular person once you start holding peoples feet to the fire in the form of mandating compliance with existing laws via DENR. You all are more than welcome to join in by doing something productive to fix the mess we have created vs “living with it.” Identification and reporting by citizens is the only way anything is going to happen. If you expect government to be the solution your very very wrong. We are the problem and the solution!

  38. 11
    CoffeePrincess Says:

In this issue, it doesn’t matter who’s the president, be it GMA or Erap or whatever. What matters is how the president can actually implement adamant rules concerning our environment. I am not pro-GMA but I think we should not put the whole weight of the blame on her because the environmental problems that we are having right now didn’t show up only during her regime. It’s been here after the Marcos rule. Besides, the citizens also have their share of responsibility in this matter, a big share that is.

We’re just APATHETIC with regards to this issue. Katwiran nung iba, di naman daw sila apektado. Kahit ngayon na malaking issue na ang global warming, marami pa rin sa atin ang walang pakialam.

In Baguio segregation, and timing in the disposal, of garbage are properly observed. They have watchers who will apprehend and penalize violators. Don’t put the blame on the national government. Family is the basic unit of a community and they are governed by certain rules formulated by their localities. Put the local leaders into work and you will see the results.

  41. 8
    Tolits Says:

Filipinos whether in government or private persons are simply not disciplined citizens as far as nation building is concerned. Self discipline does not mean one has to be educated to dispose his garbage properly. Since poor comprise the bulk of RP’s population, we can see a lot of squatters occupying the banks of waterways and rivers especially in the urban areas. They used the waterways and rivers as disposal areas of their wastes and garbage. What can we expect in this kind of indiscriminate abuse of our waterways and rivers that easily clogged and caused floods during rainy days leading to destruction of properties as well as deaths of hapless persons. In addition to this are the numerous factories that uses the waterways and rivers in discharging their toxic wastes instead of providing treatment plants to de-contaminate their toxic wastes. These industrial wastes had eliminated the entire marine life that are abundant decades agao. These kinds of citizens are creating havoc to our environment resulting to disasters like flash floods and landslides that we experienced in the pasts.

A lot of Filipinos whether private citizens or those working in the government rarely show a bit of patriotism in preserving the nature that God had given to us.

We need to act now to avoid destructing our environment before we become the next victim of disaster.

Its true that most Filipinos really dont care about their environment and just leave their trashes on the road and in public places thinking that the trash collectors will do the job of picking these trashes. These people feels that someone will do the cleaning for them but howls when the waterways are clogged. Its plain laziness for most of the Filipinos. They even have ill-reasons why these trashes ends up in the waterways and blames the govt.

The Filipinos badly needs education especially the “Masa” crowd whose usually being used by the vulture politicians for their selfish ends.

Education on the environment and population control. The govt and NGO should initiate and go directly to the masses.

    Gel Alvarado Says:

I agree with the need to educate more, but I strongly believe education is nothing if the government does not provide facilities to throw garbage into or services that provide opportunities for people to apply what they learn. The government should invest in recycling bins, trucks that pick up recycling, and recycling facilities in general, so that people will not be forced to throw their garbage in their neighbor’s backyard!
