Apart from the congested traffic during the daily rush hours, a normal sight along Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City would be the colorful tricycles that quickly traverse down the streets against monstrous trucks, missing nearby vehicles by mere inches.
But the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has banned tricycles from the area, drawing complaints from transport operators, students and residents.
The MMDA has claimed that they only did this to ease traffic in the area.
In the video below, INQUIRER.net multimedia reporter Izah Morales went to Katipunan to find out what people in the area think of this issue.

The tricycles in Katipunan operated way before MMC, the forerunner of MMDA, was created by Pres. Marcos in the 70’s. To us without cars or jeeps, it was the vehicle of choice to reach Ateneo, Maryknoll or even UP from Aurora Boulevard. The jeepneys operated too and every morning, each coming jeepney was mobbed by passengers. Wala pa kasing pila noon.
What MMDA should do is allow the tricycles to cross Katipunan to reach Miriam or the Ateneo. But the crossing lanes have been shut down, all in the name of speed.
Well, by 2010 I hope this will change. Bayani will hopefully relinquish his obsession with his U-Turn slots and Pink and Blue paintings , and the gates and pink fences that says we are dogs and animals that need to be goaded whould also be gone from Philippine streets.

katipunan is a major road. it’s just proper for those trikes to stay away. I know how unruly those trike drivers are. MMDA has just shown political will again and they get my nod.

The solution to the Katipunan congestion problem is for Ateneo to implement a shuttle system for its rich students.
