Right Stuff - For President
Win or Lose on his upcoming fight against the “over the hill” Oscar de la Joya, the up and coming phenomenon which is Manny Paquiao appears to be the better choice this 2010 presidential elections if he runs anyway.
Manny has managed to bring the nation glory after glory as he showed his gladiatorial talents in the ring time and time again. He has made the ordinary Pedro the janitor proud.
He is a man who has proven himself true to his vocation from the get go of his career. In many humble ways we see his heart is towards helping our people more so the poor.
And if poverty is an indicator Manny Pacquiao would be a shoo in to be the next President of this nation once proud to be called the”"Pearl of the Orient” in the not so distant past.
Sure his critics may say he is lacking in so many things. However Manny has one quality which cannot be assailed by anyone. Heart of a champion is his greatest asset. This is the kind of firm determination needed to vanquish the evils of corruption, bully boy tactics now prevailing in our government.
His will of purpose, fear of God can certainly insure that the Filipino’s can look to a better future if he ever gets to Malacanang.
For one thing Manny is not a trapo, his main agenda is to serve the people. Of course he may not be exactly Mr.Wonderful, but is anyways if we look at the roster of presidentiable alternatives?
Things they say happen only in the Philippines, would it be far fetched to see a man from General Santos City take residence at Malacanang? You just never can tell folks.
So lets pause for awhile and look at all the goods offered by politico’s and trapo’s who this early have been trying to make a fool of themselves in all the investigations going on. They all sound intelligent, they all speak so well but then again that’s all they really are.
Try to look beyond their false assertions of being for the people. Not one of them have lasted one round inside a boxing ring with the world’s finest boxers.
In the meantime our prayer for you Manny, is that the good Lord will grant you victory for His glory. The strenght of the Almighty is in your hands. Use them well!

I’m very sad for our country. We have a very corrupt government. Everything is for sale. And GMA has no more credibility both here abroad and locally. She lied, she steals, and a lot of her lieutenant are even worse. Sayang kasi matalino pa naman si GMA, but she didn’t use it for the good of our country. As a citizen, I’m very ashamed. But I’m still hoping she can turn around and improve our tarnish image. Thanks.

Pasing-tabi lang sa mga fans ni Manny, pero the bout with de la hoya was an obvious FIXED FIGHT. i was so disappointed on how bad the ‘acting’ was; it wasn’t even entertaining. or maybe it was, to other pinoys who wanted manny to win desperately. what really got me was that de la hoya not even trying to fight back. don’t tell me that manny is too fast for him. if DLH really wanted to go toe-to-toe, he could have employed his height and skills to his advantage. granted that he’s no longer in his prime, but the fight was so ridiculously one-sided.
i guess this is the way business is conducted in the higher echelons of boxing, or any sports for that matter. too bad, it was at the expense of some gullible boxing fans.

Fixed or not, the pacquiao-de la hoya fight has only proven that pacquiao’s humanitarian heart beats stronger than his speedy fist.

We do not know who is right and who is wrong in that Valley Golf Club incident but after the happening, the government should confine all government officials, including judges and legislators, to government golf courses. There, they can compete among themselves their golfing skills, arrogance and ill-manners. There will also be less chance for shady deals or corruption and they are free to kill each other if they want to — using balls and clubs. That may be best way to get rid of some of the undesirables; at least some of them die happy while enjoying the game.

To Inquirer,
Could you please run an article on Tim Tebow, the quarterback of Florida Gators who’s now vying for the BCS National Championship Bowl. He’s American, but I read that he was born in the Philippines and also did missionary work here.

Pacquiao may not have a picnic when he takes on Hatton (I agree with Mr. Recah Trinidad) but he can effectively counter-punch his way to a knockout victory. He might even retire Hatton, too.
Hatton was not impressive fighting a one-armed Malignani. He missed a lot of punches (meaning he is not as sharp as Manny who usually finds his target with his power combinations). Hatton also showed that he has no defense at all as he only relies on his offensive moves that I think Manny will have no problem at all in parrying and countering with his slick 1-2 and even 1-2-3 (ala Pindo Poe’s armalite) combinations.
With Manny using his smart lateral movements, Hatton will just be finding a ghost when he throws his punches. In addition, Freddie Roach will definitely come up with a defensive and offensive strategy that will give Manny the edge in his fight with Hatton.
Bold Prediction: Manny will win all rounds and probably knock out Hatton between rounds 6-9. Manny may not have an easy time as he had with de la Hoya who really ‘cannot pull the trigger’ anymore. Whoever said that fighting a ‘bara-bara’ like Hatton is easy? Manny could be tagged but he has shown that he can take punches and roll with them.
Manny will move on to take on Floyd Mayweather or Shane Mosley before he hangs up his gloves this year.
To Manny, More Power and may you have the wisdom to avoid politics as this is only for crocodiles and not for a man like you who has a golden heart who truly cares for the masses (just an unsolicited advice).

While he was training, alone without any government support nor media interest, even while he was already serving and hitting winners in the Autralian Open, this Nino Alcantara was only “Nino” the junior doubles champ, not a Filipino Champ. But when we Filipinos learned about his feat, every one of us, including the government sports authorities, the media and some sychopants welcomed him as they knew and supported him before. Even Senator Pia Cayetano couldn’t hide her hypocrisy by praising the champ to high heavens even if the lady Solon didn’t really know this champ nor did she even say a little good luck prayer in Congress to give the young man her moral support. Now it’s time to think tennis. Nino has just proven that we can do it/ Basketball will never bring us any honor, only commercials and celebrity names, not glory and pride like Nino Alcantara, our future Tennis Pacquiao.

Not many know Big J when he was just a struggling student named “Bobby” in UE where I worked as a messenger in a Dean’s Office. I think I know why and how Bobby Jaworski became a Big J and lastly a Senator: it’s his determination and discipline as a student. Once, I was tasked to deliver an official memo from his coach Baby Dalupan to each of the Warriors asking their teachers to dismiss the players because they were to attend a scheduled practice. When the teacher asked Bobby that he could leave class, I was still inside the room and I witnessed that Bobby declined to go and insisted on staying in class. The morale of the anecdote: Bobby considered himself as a student first, and basketball athlete second. No wonder he became a super idol Warrior during his stay in UE, then a Big J in the PBA, and finally a lawmaker in the Senate. I believe that education, not just basketball, has spelled Robert Jaworski’s successful life story.

I just saw the final PBA game between T&T and Alaska. I’m not a fan of either team and I’m not going to elaborate here how Alaska blew it because they missed their last 4 free shots. What disappointed me is not the loss of Alaska but the loss of “sportsmanship” in basketball leagues in our country. We are supposed to be copycats of the Americans yet we haven’t learned from them their sense of sportsmanship: at the end of the final game, the team members led by their coaches form one line to congratulate and shake the hands of other team. Only after such friendly congratulatory gestures will the glorious bedlam of the winning team and their fans begin. But in our country that’s crazy for basketball, no such sporty display ever takes place. The cameras don’t pan the court just to see how the losing team handles their defeat collectively. The losers just disappear from view. Such display of childish reaction also happened during the Ateneo-la Salle championship game where the Archers didn’t even show up to receive their runner-up trophy. The same scenario shamed the PBA ceremony. You saw what happened . And we love to call basketball a “SPORT’. Sus Mariano Ka Indo”. What a misnomer!

We are short people in love with a sport for tall people: basketball. We spend a lot of hype, time, money, and emotions on a what we call sport but is in reality only a form of entertainment. There’s no gold at the end of the basketball rainbow. Imagine, if we only build and collectively support other sports like tennis, football, volleyball, (aside boxing) baseball, softball, gymastics, etc. where height isn’t an advantage, we have more chances of making a name for our country in the Olympics. Though professional basketball has no doubt financially helped many of our youth, it has also consumed and drained all of our other energy. That young tennis sensation named Nino Alcantara should jump start our sports authorities and aficionados to scout and train more Ninos in the future. Sure, this is easier said than done, but the time is now not tomorrow. Let’s de-emphsize basketball and divert our resources to other sports.

I don’t undertand why HARDBALL hosts Jinno, Bill, and Boyet do not use Tagalog or Taglish in their show. Hardball is a sports magazine program where various subjects are being analyzed by three Filipinos who try to mimic ESPN sportscasters. If only they’d try switching to Tagalog, or Taglish they might find it more relevant, enjoyable, and nationalistic. But these hosts are more at home with James Bond’s language, not with the tongues of their mothers and fathers. Even their facial expressions, hand and head gestures, plus their demeanor have already that “Americanesque” (call it Amboy )quality. Maybe, they ought to be somewhere in the U.S. doing their cup of tea, broadcasting to an American audience who can better appreciate their English. Of course we Pinoys can also understand English. We can chat privately in English. Oh yes, We can also read and write English. But should we do the same on Filipino TV to a Filipino audience, in our own land? And these three are talking about the 3 Bs that the Filipino masses love so much: Basketball, Boxing, and Billiards. As they say, “When in Rome, do what the Romans do” So why don’t Boyet, Bill, and Jinno talk in Tagalog? Kasi, mga “educated” sa exclusive schools iyan, mga “Illustrado”. Jahi naman kung magtatagalog sila. Baka bumaba ang rating at kalidad ng Hardball if it is done in Tagalog. Talaga ba? May survey na ba to prove that the use of English in a sports program improves its quality and invite more listeners? Eh, baka naman network policy? Kapamilya? sa Bayan ni Juan English ang usapan? How come Manny Pacquiao knocked Oscar down with his English punches?because he was thinking English? Does Efren Bata Reyes think in English whenever he pushes that long stick? How come we sing our national anthem in Filip;ino, though we have an English version? If Hardball talks about polo, car racing, or golf, maybe they can use English because most Pinoys have no interest in those sports, anyway. But basketball, boxing, billiards? Sus Mariano Ka Indo, huwag na kayong pa-ingles-ingles pa. Hardball is not “Kapamilya”. It is “Kaplastikan”.

Hey Pompeyo you noticed that too, huh? Siguro pa ‘class’ sila dahil they comment mostly on NBA games at iba ang dating. Big time. heheh ‘In’ na ‘in’ nga naman para sa ‘in’ crowd. Kaya kung masa ka tulad ng PBA out ka.

Networks can call their Richard Rodriguezes Kapuso and their Piolo Pascuals as Kapamilya, but please for God’s sake don’t brand Manny Pacquiao Kapuso or Kapamilya because he is neither of these hypocritical tags. Manny is Filipino , PERIOD. He owes his title to his fans, his boxing prowess, and his reverence to God. For GMA CEO to say “Manny remains a kapuso doesn’t add any lustre to the name Pacquiao; it could even demean it.
Networks are like greedy ranchers who treat their talents like cows who are reined in a corral, and then branded, not allowed to roam freely and graze for greener pasture. Well, these are star wannabes who are forced to surrender their freedom or break a contract and lose income. So among our celebrities, it’s all about economics not passion for excellence. So don’t wonder if our local Showbiz is still in the gutter after all these years. The reason? our talents are not really artists in the true sense of the word because they lack the most basic, the most important attribute of an artist- FREEDOM
Manny has no excuse to lose to Hatton, but with the network war bugging him, and giving him nightmares, it is no longer surprising if he finally sleeps inside the ring just teacher GMA and ABS-CBN a lesson.

For want of better words to describe all this uproar over Pacman’s predicament, I went to the dictionary and found “OMINOUS’ and I quote Webster, “ominous implies having a menacing or alarming character foreshadowing evil or disaster…frighteningly big or impressive but now connotes forewarning calamity”.
I hope I am wrong to describe this particular Pacquiao affair as “OMINOUS”.
pompeyo pedroche
Pacquiao is like a cow, corralled, and branded “Kapuso” according to GMA. That’s that. He is not a victim of an ugly system, but of an ugly Showbiz culture.

It’s ridiculous to let Martin Nievera sing our anthem in the Pacquiao Hutton match. The only Pinoy in Martin is his skin and nose. Everthing else about him is American: his demeanor, his English accents, even his sense of humor is American. Martin goes to Manila only to make money from concerts and then disappears. He would rather be among whites. Besides, would we want someone who has a broken family life to sing our beloved anthem? Why not Lea or Charice or even Pokwang, but please not Martin Nievera. He is Karma to Pacquiao.

It is very transparent that all that Manny wants is to help his countrymen, not to legislate laws because congressional legislation has never been proven to have benefited the nation. Manny will win but his national goal will be lost in political dirt. he might as well run for Senator or President, if he’s thinking of the whole nation but not as a lawmaker. Even if he donates all his pork and salary to the poor, it will not be enough. Manny should continue to box to give glory to our country. Upon retirement, he can be a sports commissioner where his talents are precisely suited.

Those three English-spokening clowns of Hardball- who claim to be sports analysts- should plant camotes. They all made wrong predictions on the outcome of the Manny-Ricky match. Secondly, Manny has proven that even with his broken English he can be a great athlete. But these three Pseudo American ESPN hosts wannabes keep on using English in their sports program. Sa TV, Mag-Tagalog na lang kayo and be more relevant and nationalistic. I am not insulting you Mr. Sison, nothing personal, but it’s the principle of misusing mass media to propagate an alien culture. Kung gusto niyo speak English at the Malls in Makati or Rockwell or in five star hotels, but on a Kapamilya channel, you look ridiculous talking in English to your Filipino Audience. Impertinente!!!

True, true. We should honor our national anthem especially if it is being sung in public and in another place other than the Philippines. Singers should just stick to the original tempo and arrangement in that way they won’t have to show-off their personal style and ability to reach high notes. It’s irritating enough that pop stars are chosen for this kind of job. I believe there are other ordinary singers who could do justice to the rendition of our National Anthem. Let’s not imitate American singers who started all these.

Lito Atienza,
Sagot mo ba ang sambayanang pilipino pag me nabitbit na SWINE FLU ang mga kasamahan ni MANNY PACQUIAO? mag isip isip ka naman, idadamay mo pa kami para lang sa pansariling “early” campaign mo, DOH SECRETARY na nga ang nag advice ng “self-quarantine” or siguro hindi mo alam ang self quarantine, alam mo lang self-gratification at the expense of the filipino people! truly you are the “true” tuta of this administration, NHA days pa lang bulok na sistema mo!

I hope Manny Pacquiao gets this message: Manny, you have been so generous and altruisitic. You have been so kind to people some of whom aren’t even known to you. I am just wondering why since you have achieved such success in life, you have not even mentioned or acknowledged your father when your mother has always been the center of your attention. Even if it’s true that your father had been so irresponsible to have abandoned you in the past, he is still your biological father without whose physical attribute Aling Dionisia couldn’t have conceived and delivered you into this world single-handedly like a Virgin Mary (you know what I mean). I have seen him on TV looking like a “loser” struggling in life. I wonder if you can spare him some little “Balato” from your millions of only to make both him and you happier.
