JOSE De Venecia Jr. is shooting from the foot of the hill facing the sun, while the majority fire at him from the top. His chances of hitting his target (the president) are slim. And he must first convince his colleagues above to stop firing — which, obviously, is next to impossible — so he can see more clearly, be heard, or be able to adjust his sights. Admin solons have taken potshots at him – pelting him about sour-graping and the like. These are expected from politicians who benefit from the accused, while nothing to gain from the whistleblower or from fulfilling one’s obligations to the citizenry or even for the sake of good governance. It must be a painful struggle for De Venecia, adjusting to such a humbling position. But still, there could be a very strong spirit of change within his new self that he now takes on those who he once faithfully served and that time even at the expense of moral righteousness and good governance. I pray that his intentions are sincere for a moral revival in Philippine politics, and not — as one solon ridicules him with — a huge cheap marketing ploy to sell his book. Let us give him the benefit of the doubt. I think the impeachment case is 99 percent dead by now because of the mechanics of numbers in the house. Nevertheless, let a small voice be heard, and let us ruminate in what it says, because somewhere under the smoke of bickering is the truth that we all deserve to know. And just before 2010 elections let all these remind us voters : “Not again.”

hello to all of our kababayans.
yes, i salute on what arniel wrote on this comment. it is the time to fight for our rights, but how? if you all of militars are still in the side of your commander in chief, how can we fight and eradicate those bad influence people like GMA and her allies. you people in congress “shake your heads and ask your consience”, it is really true that you’ve just wasted your coconut shell for nothing.

may i ask; what if De Venecia & Co. got a bigger part of the loot? will he act the way he does now? let us not be so naive on how philippine politicians “trapos” like him behave. of course i don’t condone the rest of the cast in this controversial drama.

Here is another creature imploring the truth on the often said the truth shall set you free. Jose de Venecia will do all in his power to be absolved of all things, points all the blame to everybody , except himself. He is the ultimate man in politics, for he has the will to survive. In the present impeachment case, he has displayed that he will even take the side of Satan if that will suit him best.
Bottomline, he came in too late in the party. Nobody will believe him. One, he has just shown that blood is thicker than water. It is not the morality of all of this that is at stake. It is in their best interest that they get the ZTE project. And for all intents and purposes, he did what most corrupt politicians do - influence the outcome of any business engagements and used his position to influence the outcome.
He is just plain hypocrite.
He should be expelled from the House.

Such sympathy for yet another drama of “The Underdog”. Just because JDV is now going against the incumbent, which is believed to be corrupt, is sufficient to grant him the “benefit of the doubt”? What moral ascendancy does he have to point a finger at GMA (guilty or not), when he himself was also in the very picture he claims to prove GMA’s involvement in the corruption scandal? JDV, perhaps to show your commitment to the truth and topple coruption, why don’t you volunteer yourself to jail for corruption, and then fire all your guns at GMA. Perhaps that would be much more credible than just speaking in front of the TV or publishing a book with pictures of your dance with corruption as well.

Saw JDV in the news, blabbering in the committee investigation about what he knew about the ZTE anomalies, while holding his book with a picture of him, first dude, some chinks from ZTE and his boss/kumare, GMA, playing golf while cooking the deal on who makes a ton of money. I think that his appearance in the committee investigation as a remarkable witness is nothing more than a pre sale promo of his upcoming book. Wise up dude. You look like a drunk witness in a murder case. carry on.

Looking at the object at very close range absent a microscope blurred one’s vision. Same as the opinion Mr. Manalac had expressed about Mr.JDV’s expose or rap against President Aroyo. Mr. Conrado de Quiroz is right that Mr. JDV is ” FULL OF OF — IT”. Mr. JDV is reaping what he had sown over the years. He was one among the few ass-licking-lap-dog of this Administration, until ‘blood is ticker than water’ test finally caught up with him.
Sandwiched betwen two evil forces, his Yoda like (absent wisdom) persona decided to play Judas Escariot.

Joe de Venecia & son are two late the heroes… Why only NOW? if De Venecia have wonthe bid, it would have been a different story. But the bidders were all too greedy to share the LOOT… SORRY NA LANG…

Credibility is JDV’s real big problem and obviously he don’t have it for him to be more convincing and the people clearly saw through it. He has his chance when GMA was already in trouble but choose to side with her in several instances. What was the reason? We may never know the real score but it boils to only one motive - he also benefited.
Still remember what former Senator Salonga said about the ZTE Scandal and i think it aptly describe the whole mess - “it’s a quarrel among thieves.”
JDV can speak cowardly “about the truth” against GMA and FG for as long as he wants - but until and unless he himself admits his past wrongdoings and present “hand in the cookie jar” proof, nothing will come out of it.
One thing is certain for now - JDV must be hurting and feels the pain.
What a sorry sight of a once very powerful and influential man.

Maaaring totoo ang sinasabi nya regarding the first couple ang problema ni JDV para syang sitsaron na nababad masyado sa suka na kahit lasing di na sya gagawing pulutan. Sayang talaga ngayon lang sya pumiyok….better luck next time…kung may next time ka pa.tsk tsk tsk.,.anyway,,, joey DV might be your second chance..good luck father and son….

Quo Vadis, Mr.JDV? After spitting against the wind (lumura ng patingala), it’s never too late to come your senses and ponder on what you really want to accomplish.
Think deeply on what kind of legacy you want to leave behind after na “nag pantay na po ang inyong paa.”
How To Dip your Hand into Cookie Jar Without A Trace, is a fitting intro to the synopsis of Mr. JDV’s book allegedly to be launched in the U.S.
Gising Kabayan, maawa kayo sainyong mga apo.

Perhaps if JDV’s son got the contract, maybe we won’t be hearing anything from him and his son. Just a thought…

Let us back track in the annals of time. FVR and JDV were the ones who convince PGMA to run again for Presidency after her announcemnet not to run in 2000. But after some political manuevers, both sponsor’s influence on their party slowly wane, and finally PGMA undeniably got the leadership.
When PGMA won the 2000 election, corruption in the government, which started from FVR time, went on. However, the degree of corruption became so great never been seen in any past administration.
Billions of pesos of government funds were diverted for other purpose other than what it is intended. Many were wasted on unnessesary albit lavish travel abroad starting from FVR time until now. Billions of pesos still has to be liquidated and accounted according to the Commission of Audit. Majority of cash advances where of dovious purpose.
JDV is party to these wasting of hard-earned people’s tax. Malacanang and JDV uses the carrots and stick strategy where-in Congressmen who cooperates, aside from getting their share of Pork Barrel allocation are also being bribe with sizable cash and amenities to protect PGMA.
There is a matching occurance to this event. In America, a crime group plan to extort protection money from almost all sources of businesses, Mafia Style. This group whoes members are mainly Latinos, later on got out of control. Some of their members who were later on arrested and subsequently departed to South America, as undesirebles, started to organize similar crime groups which florished all over South America. In fact, the enfluence of these criminals even reaches Europe. Drug is one of their experties.
In the same manner, in our case, it is not criminals but policicians who are embolden to disregard our Constitutions, laws, and moral ascendancy to meet their ends. The blatant lies, the corruptions, the obvious loyalty of our politicians to the power-in-be revail their identity. They disregarded their vow of office to obey the constitution, their loyalty to the country, and to serve their constituence in their outmost ability.
JDV has created a monster, which finally devour him just like the crime group of America. It has gone out of control.

If there is anything worth listening or heeding about Rep. Jose de Venecia Jr.’s remarks at the House Justice Committee impeachment hearings, it is his similar view expressed by CBCP in one of its pastoral letters: that corruption is allegedly being commited by some members of both public and private sectors of society. De Venecia cited government officials/employees who accept bribe money, voters who sell their votes and other corruptors/corrupted.
It is about time media practitioners also find out and expose the other corrupt persons being referred to by CBCP and De Venecia, instead of concentrating on the GMA administration. Media may have to check if some of them are also committing corruption or are being corrupted, instead of sometimes demonizing the President who despite her disadvantages, have weightier advantages. Media may have to give us an in-depth analysis why corruption is prevalent in our country. Media should commission historians like Manolo Quezon to make a research on the causes of corruption and air it on television. By doing so, we can identify the problem and take steps to extirpate it before the 2010 elections. So that we shall no longer say, “not again,” let media not only talk the but also walk the walk.

Credibility is really eating up De Venecia, his son who have the guts to bid in the NBN deal despite his father being the Speaker of the House AND the militant solons and trapo policos in the person of Guingona and Ronnie Zamora with the assistance of ABS-CBN anchors like Corina and Failon airing only one side of the coin, the side of the oppositions hungry for immediate powers. These two also insinuate on the air rebellion by the people.
The gang who accuses a supossedly thief are thieves themselves in different aspects like corruption, power grabbing and summary execution.
The pro-impeachment gang is a mixture of communism, traditionally-corrupt politicians and media insinuators with monopolistic businesses out to get the power grip of the country, nothing else.
In any side you see it, these group will always refer the garbage bag to dump their selfish concerns.
People will not bite the bait by these seedy group. Majority of the citizen knew in their hearts and minds that the solution to these political turmoil will be in 2010 election.

Random thoughts…say for example the congressmen wake up and realize that it is time to speak up and just admit their crimes..then say for example the president gets impeached..so that means all of these guys go to prison including JDV (well, we definitely don’t want this guy as president)…then we hold another election where politicians spend millions to campaign…then it’s return on investment time…then the cycle begins again…by that time this generation would be dead and will be declared heroes like those who were in EDSA1..then another generation struggles..then so on…

It is a pity that JDV has lost his credibility as a witness. His admission of accepting P500,000 bribed money just show his true color. If he is really sincere in his words, why is it only now that he is ousted as a Speaker. Sorry, but I don’t think that the Filipino people will be fooled by your plain hypocrisy!
dudz
Everything that comes from his mouth may not be convincing to others, this is so because he is also the subject why the ZTE broadband deal issue came about.
The Argonaut
I remember back in the 90’s, JDV has this reputation of being the quintessential TRAPO. Guess what? It hasn’t change over the years.
I hope he stops yakking because even when the people know and feel that what he says is true, his credibility is wanting. He is just getting back at his erstwhile allies.
IMHO, JDV is just making noise not for the sake of the nation’s interest, but his.
If he was really sincere, WHY ONLY NOW, JOE???!!!!
George R. Calderon
Filipinos should not believe and look at people with PHD, graduate from UP, La Salle or any Catholic school only. You see what is happening to our country, we are ruled kuno with PHD people or intelligent people but we are the no 1 corrupt in Asia. What are these CBCP and Makati businessmen doing, they are more richer now especially GMA.
joiwaly
On the contrary, JDV has the credibility on this issue. He knows where he speaks of. In fact, he is the face of corruption in this country and the ultimate ass-licking-lap-dog in any administration that he has served!
It’s karma, stupid!

Almost every comment in this blog hit it right. De Venecia was just sour graping. Imagine, this dude enjoyed pretty much all the glories brought about by his “trapo” strategies. He thought he can fool all the Filipinos with his flip flopping political antics just because his son didnt get into the deal. Just connect the dots and this dude has met all the requirements to be put on a firing squad. I would say most politicians are thieves and this De Venecia is just one of them though he knows how to play it well and smart. But not all Filipinos are stupid. Marami ring nag-iisip. Babalik uli yan pag kalante na ang lagay at mamayagpag ulit sa kapangarihan at kayabangan under th guise of nationalism and reconciliation. Look what the Marcoses did? simple lang di ba?
Pusang-Ligaw

I agree with what M.Manalac and rainmain have said about JDV.
I quite agree with Congressman Mike Arroyo when he said that it was hurting for JDV to lose his position in the senate, and that he understood as well the feeling of JDV against his mom President. I praise him for not saying too much against JDV and for hoping that reconciliation might happen later. I believe that PGMA will quit office by 2010, but so many contrapartisans are so upset that PGMA will still run after her term and that I don’t understand why the impeachment processes are being put before her when the year ahead is not far and long. Is it just for vengeance which is not right and proper for leaders? A tooth for a tooth or a shame for a shame?
I feel sorry that our intelligent people in the government seem to act like ordinary people: keeping grudges because of personal hurts, putting at stake the welfare of the Philippine society. I could not imagine how much it costs for all or most the senate or congress to come for a meeting, and all this was a heck.
From a point of view of a filipino residing outside the country, I see in many of our leaders, a lot of immaturity in governance, with self-seeking interest for most in office and lack of self-reflection and integrity, or loyalty. It appears that our leaders seem to misunderstand and lose the balance between freedom of speech as a democractic act, and prudence and wisdom in decision making on the other, this is true too to some of our Church leaders - who seem to look often on the one side while taking sides of partisans on the other.
I would still like to praise our President for standing so strong- stronger than the her predecessors: from ex Presidents Cory Aquino, Fidel Ramos and the worst Joseph Estrada. What a shame for some of these ex-presidents to take sides in unseating PGMA when they themselves knew how hard it is to govern a nation and to find qualified leaders for the country. I am proud of her because she represents the country in the International meetings with full of hope and vigor for the sake of our country.
A side remark is about our Filipino Muslim brothers and sisters, that we could work hand in hand, side by side with one another. Christian and Muslims are not different, we are one and one Nation. I praise our Muslim brothers and sisters because they are seeking for peace. I am a Christian and I am proud to say that our Muslim Filipino people are different from the other Islamic countries. There are terroristic acts and unrest still going on in the country, but I remain hopeful because we could live peacefully together, in the past, at present and in the future. We need honest and good leaders- both Muslim and Christian leaders!

Whatever one can say or think about JDV, one thing is very clear. At least some of the countless accusations of corruption and cheating must be true.
It is not JDV only who accuses. And now, the fourth impeachment is blocked, too.
If there would be sincerity, honesty and innocence at the parts of GMA, FG et all, long time already they would have said “enough now, let them investigate and clear our names because we did nothing wrong”. But what they do? They just manage to block any kind of investigation and declare that what they are saying is the only truth.
No innocent people would allow to be accused years long for cheating, stealing, fraud, lying, poll rigging and much more, without even themselves to force an independent investigation for to clear their names and maybe to bring malicious accusers to court. Unfortunately, they only resort to denials, nothing else. This is not the common habit of innocent, falsely accused people.
It is aLso not clearing them if any offered proof is immediately declared insufficient and any witness declared as not credible. Until he or she is taken under custody of a gov. agancy and retracts, then there is immediately 100% credibility re-installed.

I think, we filipinos need to weak up now and share our part in making our beloved country move forward. our political leaders (Opposition and Administration) have similar agenda which is for their personal interest.
Filipino people are also allowing themselves to be used by the elite leaders for the advancement of their personal interest. Just look at what Mar Roxas did during the scheduled signing of MOA-AD, he block it not because of his love for the country but because he is aware that to allow the MOA-AD means constitutional change and his personal ambition of becoming a president may not be realized.
he visited North Cotabato and informed them that they have attained victory. they cilibrated the supreme court decision stoping the MOA-AD without thinking of the impact of what he did.
unknown to us is the billion of pesos spent by AFP for the WAR, hundreds of Military Personnel have died and hundreds become widow and orphan. the same is true with the civilian in mindanao affected by the WAR. the effort of peace panels for 11 years went to waste.
Now the government is designing new formula to attain lasting peace in Mindanao that would probably be benifical to the whole country.
My Suggestion for the present administration is to look deeper on the root cause of the rebelion. If Mrs. Arroyo would want to leave office and be remembered by the the Filipino people as one of our great leader, she should pursue peace negotiation with the MOro rebels.
One thing the government failed to understand is the state of local governance in the Moro claimed areas.
For all you know, there is no government in local government units in ARMM. the regular IRA of each LGU goes to the pocket of elected officials. Let me cite one instance in Lanao del Sur where the Mayor and his Treasurer went to PNB-Lanao and asked the teller if their IRA already there. when the Teller said yes, the Mayor asked his treasurer to prepare the checks and they widraw their one month IRA on that time without any supporting documents. this practice is committed by all the LGU in the province except in WAO Lanao del Sur.
as a result of this rampant corruption, government basic social services are sacrificed, ordinary civilians are force to depend themselves by exchanging their working animals into guns because the government do not provide the cesessary security. Never in my life that I saw a medical misssion conducted in my municipality and 95 percent of the LGUs in the province do not have function RHU of Health Center. MOst of the Public School Teachers are living in Marawi City engaged in BUsiness activities and living thier schools without proper functioning. this in turn is tolerated by the Prinicipals and Supervisors because they have percentage share from the salaries of the teachers. Local Officials who is expected to correct the mistake turn a blind eye in the situation because they are afraid that these professionals will fire back at them and exposed their own wrong doings.
The Ordinary MOro Civilian, who is exposed in these stone age government practice are prone to the recruitment for seccessionest group blaming the national government for all the failure.
with that you might blame us (Ordinary Civilian) that all these things happens because we are electing not qualified leaders. before you come to that conclussion try to remeber what happen in Maguindanao when MIguel Zubiri got almost one hundred percent of casted vote which is statistically improbable. civilian are not included in the election. one or two days before the election we already who will win.
Finally, If the National Government would realy want to address the peace and order problem in Mindanao, continue the negotiation with the MILF and use them in curbing the rampant corruption in Local government in ARMM. start from Lanao and conduct a surprise visit in thier Municipal Hall so you will see if there is a government there. open their book (Surprise audit) and punish those who commit mistakes and continue monitor the LGU performance.
I am one hundred percent sure that when the local governemnt operate as according to the local government code ordinary civilian will exchange thier guns into a more productive means and in return both the Civilian and MILF will understand that the philippine laws is the same as what is stipulated in the Sharia Law. in this way i think, we moros will embrace the rule of law in the Philippine context with very minimal excemption applicable to us.
I know to do this is not just easy, but the national government possess all the means to do it. Pilot certain LGUs Like Malabang, Marantao and Lumbayanague in Lanao del Sur and conduct surprise visit and Audit so that other LGUs will correct their mistakes themselves. MILF and Civilian in the towns will surely support you and if you ask them to help will surely help you.
I hope all the readers of this item will help me share it to the national governemnt officials so we can also see development in our area just like what is happening in our neighboring christian communities. I assure government that correcting local governanceand in THREE YEARS TIME, rebellion in ARMM region will deminish naturally
thank you

I couldn’t imagine you guys embrace GMA after learning all this accusations against her. They could be regarded hearsay after failing to pass the obviously GMA mandated congress. I was pro-GMA before, u can call me names whatever you like but tide has changed the foundation of the sand. It’s no longer the same GMA. After all the denials fromt he Garci conversation during the 2004 election, she no longer have the credibility to govern the country. GMA was able to portray a good image internationally, I would agree but that doesn’t change her being corrupt. That doesn’t change her being a liar. When she said on TV before that she’s not running again for Presidency after grabbing the power from ERAP who was later impeached on corruption charges, he was just conditioning the mind of his followers so as not to gain ground, so they would be feel assured that they wouldn’t be expecting her again at Malacañang, now you see what happens. All those are for shows that you people just easily accepted. She even went to the Pope to ask his blessings and so she can give reason that after some “discernment” it was a “divine intervention” that gave her the will to break her promise and run for the presidency again, which was then manufactured in her favor. If the vera files are correct, she actually lost the presidency and with more than 500,000 votes as well as the vice-presidency with over 700,000. I just hope we don’t stop from here and just wait for the next “surprises” to come. I may not believe JDV and I was honestly against him before but I just couldn’t when he sided with GMA but I guess it’s his best time to correct his mistakes. We should hear him, give him a chance to prove himself, if he has erred, then he should also be willing to be justified. GMA is not the only leader who can lead this country, we got a lot of brilliant minds in the Senate who can replace her effectively, I wish I could do something but this is the only way I can share the burden. I am having hard time meeting both ends, forcing myself to wake up to start the day when all are sound asleep and ends when the sun had already settled. Working and studying at these hard times is crucial and I wanna hear good news from the tax being collected from all of us. We deserve a better government that this incumbent liar.

At least most of the allies are giving thanks for JDV for early bonus…

JDV might be telling the truth but lo and behold who will believe him? Who would want to hear it from the great dispenser of CASH GIFTS to his fellow congressmen? Magkakampi noon, mag-kaaway ngayon. An excellent case of sour-graping.

So what happened to the official “trapo” figure? Whether GMA is lying or not, it won’t deny the fact that JDV is a picture of a TRAPO Politician.
SO why on earth should anyone believe him?
