Cong. Garcia is just comparing the situation wherein our Lord Jesus Christ was condemned by the opinion of the angry mob since the pro-impeachment congressmen cited the low ratings of Pres. Arroyo in opinion surveys as one of the basis for impeachment since it is possible that such surveys are biased. I don’t think what he said is blasphemous.

For a real Christian, no matter how good or bad is GMA, it should be clear that putting anyone up as God-like, is a big sin. Maybe Garcia just invokes that the Church only needs a confession of sins and with some prayers all is forgiven, ready for further sins. If truly this would forgive all sins, for what then is the final judgement? In this matter, other religions like Muslim are more responsible with their book of life where nothing is forgotten and which will work as judging iool if and to which level of paradise one will be accepted.

It appears that we can miss the point. There is a point of comparison between Jesus Christ and President GM Arroyo: that perceptions of people survey can be wrong. The perception that more than a marjority of one thousand something out of 80 million something Filipinos can be wrong when they chose to give a negative rating against GMA There can be lack of discernment on the part of the responders. The result of a survey can also be wrong especially if and when the interviewer does not ask the question in a neutral and objective way. Some responders to a survey may be asked leading questions and interviewers, thru their body language, may indicate what the interviewers wants as answer. The main point of comparison is that there can be rush to judgment in some cases, as pointed out by Rep. Pablo Garcia, when people chose Jesus Christ to be crucified in lieu of Barrabas.

This is my response to Cebu Rep. Pablo Garcia outrageous statement comparing the President to Jesus Christ, asserting that Mrs. Arroyo is being crucified in surveys conducted by independent opinion poll groups.

Gloria is not Jesus, and definitely not the Mother of Jesus. In Jesus name, we ask the Lord to stop Mrs. Arroyo and her pork barrel starved congressmen from using his name for the sake of their own narrow and sinister agenda. We appeal to the Lord to punish these corrupt politicians who continue to use his name.

What kind of legacy this man would leave to the people and to the Cebuanos? Nothing, really nothing because Rep. Garcia is not only senseless and insensitive, he is also annoying and an old-school traditional politician.

I strongly condemn the Cebu congressman for downplaying the poor showing of the Chief Executive in the surveys as indicators that President Arroyo betrayed public trust and therefore, she should be impeached.

A survey conducted by the Social Weather Station (SWS) last September 30 to October 4 revealed that Majority of Filipinos are not in favor of moves to amend the Constitution and for President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to stay in power beyond 2010. That is vox populi in real and stricter sense.

Since the honorable congressman from Cebu compared GMA to Jesus Christ, then GMA should also be crucified. The nerve of that congressman! There is not even a speck of comparison. Dear fellow Filipinos,

We are a nation divided. Peace, unity and development continue to elude us because we have a president bereft of moral or legal authority to lead. She had, in fact, become the greatest continuing threat to the security, cooperative spirit, well being and sense of Nationhood of the Filipino people.

A true leader is a symbol of unity and a rallying figure especially in difficult times. A bogus leader is divisive and stays in power to the detriment of the common good and the National interest.

GMA continues to inflict herself on our hapless people. In the process, scarce government resources are squandered to buy for her dubious loyalties, institutions are prostituted to project a sham imprimatur to an immoral governance, public service has evolved into a buffet of graft and corruption, and morals, values, accountability and responsibility have been reduced to mere flamboyant phrases. She destroyed the very concept of truth as the foundation of every act of government.

We find the country today in deep turmoil. Oppression, corruption and injustice rule the benighted land. Internecine struggles threaten to dismantle the republic. Widespread poverty robs people of their dignity and drives many to prostitution and virtual slavery in foreign climes. Hunger incidence is at an all time high and the country’s human development index is at an all time low. No wonder, an atmosphere of destitution pervades among our normally resilient and patient people. All of these were brought about by 8 years of unelected, hopelessly corrupt leadership and a slew of failed liberal economic and peace policies.

Long starved of good governance, the Filipino people should act now to reclaim their dignity, remove the pretender from power and steer this nation on the path to greatness. I echo, loud and clear, the call for radical reforms and restructuring. The call of the times is for us NOT ONLY TO LISTEN BUT TO MARCH.

November 30, a few days from now is National Heroes Day. Let us recapture the visions and ideals of our heroes and martyrs and give justice to their golden dream of National independence.

This country needs a leader of heroic and nationalist stature who would champion genuine independence in every aspect of our national life. He or she must be committed to challenging colonial economic masters and their local surrogates, abandoning obscene foreign debt payment policies, pushing industrialization, agriculture productivity and sustainable agrarian reforms, ensuring food and energy independence, and formulating a sound economic strategy anchored on the declaration that this country’s patrimony and all of our abundant resources are solely for the Filipinos to develop and benefit from. The current President is the antithesis of that leader. For her personal aggrandizement, she was willing to sacrifice the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity by dismembering the Republic in the case of the Bangsamoro Juridical Entity (BJE) and the baseline issue, west of our archipelago.

The latest Malacañang sponsored machinations are designed to extend GMA’s discredited regime. Secretary Dureza’s prayer and the feigned reaction revealed it all. With no semblance of delicadeza, no less than her son is doing the rounds, spearheading a signature campaign that would eventually actualize their foul design. With a subservient congress which frustrates the impeachment process at every turn and some Supreme Court justices willing to do their biddings, then their coast is clear, our political fate is sealed. I dread the thought that our best bet is for GMA to die of old age.

Now is the time to grip hands and act! Enough is enough!

To Enrile, Ramos and all generals, if the true spirit of EDSA 1 and if it is true in your thought, why you are numb and mum in this very corrupt and unscrupulous administration of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, where is your dignity and conscience when fought in President Marcos regime, are you thinking that this full of deceit administration is still capable to uphold goodness in our country? I think Marcos era is much better than this “EVIL” period. I really don’t think the comparison of GMA to Jesus per se is an accurate description to the highly criticized analogy. It is also sad that JDV took the wrong turn to present it the wrong way and many people bitten the bullet.

If I understood the context well, it supposed to present that the mob sometimes can’t be right. Just in the case of Jesus pitted against Barnabas to which the crowd favored Barnabas.

The point is simple, the noisiest of the roudy crowd does not all of the time hold monopoly to justice. Here in the Philippines, when you are the noisiest many people think you are the truth.

Thankfully two thousand years later, justice is not carried out through the loudest of the mouths or the opinion poll or through noise of the mob but through our judicial courts. We may question the credibility of our legal system but then again that’s another story.

It seems that in this country, the only opinion that matters are the opinion polls taken by SWS and Pulse Asia. These are business enterprises making money out of creating an opinion results that favors their clients. The questions asked are loaded and/or misleading to get the desired results. One example is the question on charter change where the respondent was asked if he favors a charter change to extend the term of office of President Arroyo. The question was obviously constructed to get a negative response considering the low popularity of GMA. Now supposed the question is changed to this ” Do you favor Charter Change to abolish the Senate?” The result will be very interesting.

I just want to comment on the article written by Roni from Antipolo regarding PGMA’s comparison with Jesus. The article making a comparison between Gloria and Jesus was made by Mr. Pablo Garcia. Roni said that Pablo’s article comparing GMA to Jesus is blasphemous.

Blasphemy in my own opinion is using the name of God in vain. In this case, i dont see any basphemous statement in the words written by Mr. Garcia when he compared GMA to Jesus. Roni must remember that all human beings were made according to the image of God. Except maybe to man’s deeds and actions that God left to man to do. Now, Roni should also realize that GMA may have accused of corruption which case even at this point in time is still being heard and there were cases involving corruptions that have already been turned down by courts for lack of evidence. And to our law, unless you are proven guilty, the person being implicated or accused of a crime remains innocent. An accused person should not therefore be treated as if he/she is a criminal already like President Gloria who has been accused of corruption which ahs to be proven yet.

It is our belief as christians, that to prejudge a person of his/her act is sinful. Jesus indeed had not never accused of corruption, he instead sacrificed his life to redeem our sins.

WHy don’t we give PGMA the benefit of a doubt, let us not be prejugdmental to her as Christ did to his accusers. God even forgave those who offended him.

Ang dalangin ko na lang hikayatin nila ang mga politiko sa kanilang simbahan at doon bigyan ng kaliwanagan ng isipan at manumbalik sa kabutihan kesa ang hikayatin muli ang sambayanan sa kalye upang doon iparating ang mga hinaing na nagiging sanhi lamang ng mas malalang hidwaan at kapahamakan ng samabayanang Pilipino. Tama na, sobra na! tama na ang sobrang pakiki-alam ng simbahan sa usaping politika. May tamang lugar para iwasto ang mga suliranin ng sambayanan. Ang mga nawawalang tupa na ito ay naglalarawan lamang na malaki ang pagkukulang ng simbahan at mga ibang grupo ng pananampalataya na bigyan ng tamang aral at aruga na dahilan ng maraming katiwalian at kasamaan sa ating lipunan.

As a Christian and a decent human being, it is definitely [and without any reservation] UN-acceptable to me, and to many others - to have anyone compare our Lord Jesus Christ to GMA. No amount of reasoning or human law can ever justify such action, so I suggest those who try to defend this statement to just stop and THINK. The one who said this was merely grasping (’grasping’, being the operative word here) for excuses (surely, for selfish reasons). If he has ran out of things to say to ‘justify’ what is happening in our midst, then the best recourse is to turn to our Lord and ask for guidance and forgiveness - that is the best and only way we can survive this sorry state we find ourselves and our country in.
