Sorry for Cory

As much as I love and respect the former president Aquino, there are several actions in her career that are highly questionable. One was her inability to ask for debt relief at the start of her reign when people power was the buzz word around the world. Another was when she walked in the rain to compel the Senate to renew the US bases. Now comes an apology for helping oust Erap. An apology is for some wrongdoing. It was never wrong then to oust Erap who was corrupt himself but not to the magnitude of GMA. But who knows to what level his corruption might have reached if he wasn't ousted at all? If there are things to be sorry about, it's Erap not serving time in a real jail as common crooks do, it's anointing a bigger crook as his replacement, it's allowing that crook to trample the 2004 election to her favor. Justice and truth are things that cannot be compromised. Erap did a lot of things against justice and truth that justify his ouster as much as GMA does a whole lot more against justice and truth that deserve her ouster. What was wrong then is still wrong now. If Mrs. Aquino was sorry for standing up for justice and truth, then I am sorry for her. Dennis Llanda Reyes, Mariveles, Bataan, via e-mail

Did madame Cory think of the people whose power ousted Erap when she said sorry? What are the implications? That's what I would like to point out.

But then again maybe madame should be given chance to clear what it was exactly she's sorry about.

And she said "we all make mistakes" Whose miskake? Her's or Erap's, madame did not state clear.

I couldn't agree more. You don't ask a crook for an apology!

While we're at it, let's try to hasten the ouster of GMArroyo.

Mrs. Cory Aquino, I never thought na politically flirtitious po pala kayo.

Quoting the Inquirer, former Pres. Aquino's "spokesperson insists that the former leader made the remark 'in jest.'” Well, it's something that leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I absolutely agree with Dennis Llanda Reyes - the people, including former Pres. Aquino, ousted ex-Pres. Erap because he was doing the country a disservice. With this apology, even "in jest," sends the wrong message: that the the Filipinos were wrong in booting him out of office for corruption, that the Philippine court that found him guilty erred in its decision...Hmmm, maybe history books can now be rewritten to proclaim Erap's innocence (this will really make Mr. Antonio Calipjo Go's day, but that's another story). While we're at it, why don't we start apologising for ousting ex-Pres. Marcos as well? Just a thought.

To those who feel that Cory did wrong in asking forgiveness from Erap for the EDSA 2 event, I would say that you have to open your minds a little. I for one think that the greatest mistake we did after ousting Marcos was ousting Erap. Not because Erap was clean, not because Erap was good. No! We did wrong in ousting Erap because by doing so, we leave a huge hole in our democracy. By ousting Erap, we made sure that Presidents after him will try to suppress democracy in fear of being ousted via People Power. We did wrong because we did not trust enough on our institutions to work for us. We failed to trust in what we built and so are doomed to live in the shadow of our mistake. When Cory said sorry, she is not saying sorry to Erap, she is saying sorry to the Filipinos. Sorry because she made a mistake in supporting an undemocratic process. EDSA 2 is not a movement of the Filipino, it is a movement of the Elite in the guise of the masses. For honestly, if an election is held today and Erap is to run, he still stands a chance of winning. Yet, people in the media, the business, the academe, the laity, claims that EDSA 2 is the voice of the people. I am not for Erap, I am apolitical. I only humbly submit these observations as my personal opinion. I say that until we as a people admit our past mistakes, we cannot move forward and correct our current failings. "Ang hindi marunong lumingon sa pinanggalingan ay di makakarating sa paroroonan."

I really cannot understand Cory for the past years already. Her actions are very inconsistent. She fights for justice, truth, honesty, integrity, etc. but you will see her with the group of corrupt and convicted politicians like Erap, JDV, etc.

I think the best thing for her to do is to pardon those soldiers who are still in prison because of the death of Ninoy. Those soldiers suffered enough and now that Cory is sick, this is the time for her to give mercy to these people and not to Erap.

Yes,i agree with the sentiments whats happening now to our country?,we are teaching our younger generation the wrong message by saying what is wrong is right, what former pres. aquino said by saying sorry to a plundere like erap is totally not acceptable ,we are confusing the minds of the of our younger generation, what will we say then to this present government when their term has come to an end?sorry for rallying against your corrupt government?what do we say to the next plunderer?its ok to steal and plunder this nation coz in the end they will say sorry?well if thats the case, let us all plunder the wealth of our beloved country, coz its only the rich who gets pardoned and the poor gets sorry!!!

To be or not to be. To be sorry for having ousted convicted President Estrada and installing unconvicted President GMa depends upon one own's perspective and political persuasion.

From my perspective, our constitution and laws has allowed corruption and political patronage (including (vote buying)) to thrive in teh\\he Philippines. And, since all past, present & future presidents were/have/will be tainted with dishonesty because of their constitutionally mandated & statutory compensation are not commensurate to their responsibilities and because of other flaws under our constitution, we have to base our decision to oust or not to oust presidents based on their advantages.

My perspective and persuasion tells me, among all presidents who served under our present and past constitutions, President G. M. Arroyo, despite her faults, have more achievements (for example on the rice crisis, overseas filipino hostage crisis, economic/slowdown & gdp issue, calamity crisis, and other issues that benefit the ordinary Filipino, she acted swiftly and successfully and these are the advantages that outweigh the disadvantages. A discerning Filipino knows that some sectors of the press has helped demonize GMA, I think.
Cory please don't be sorry for installing GMA and ousting Estrada. After GMA's term, you know it in your heart, we have to have constitutional reforms to eradicate the problem of good governance.

SORRY FOR WHAT?!

We are indeed a banana republic with a host of current and former leaders without conviction. I love President Aquino and in fact was with her with so many crusades. But not this one. Definitely not this.

Well, as it always goes, people who are about to cross the threshold (death) are making a lot of about faces with the many things that they did in their lives. Sadly though, this maybe a reason for such an act.

Madam President, Gloria Arroyo's higher crimes does not make Joseph Estrada a lesser criminal. In fact and technically speaking, he is a convicted criminal.

You could have made your apology in private to spare us the embarrassment. But then again, it was your choice and it was a choice made in such bad taste. So taking about apologies now, how about also apologizing also to the Filipino People for making their lives at its worst under your six year term of revenge and nothing but revenge to Marcos?

May Cardinal Sin berate you on this if and ever you will see each other either in heaven or in hell.

Cory says Sorry to Erap, furthermore, EDSA II is a mistake.
After said and done, Cory said it is a joke.
Well, Cory is the most sincere person on earth, not only she is religious.
Coming from a sincere, honest, religious person Cory, I take whatever she says as a sincere and honest answer, moreover true and correct.
Cory said it is a joke, then People power is a joke.
Really, People power is a joke and a mistake. We removed two presidents not in those provided for by the constitution.
It is not only a joke but funny.
Funny in a sense that we are a democratic country and yet we did not follow the follow, what prevailed then was force.
Well, as they said, we the laughing stock of the world, and they are right.
We have joker in the senate, a jocjoc undersecetary, and the president who said it was all joke.
Well, it is a joke but not funny.
As they said, damage have been done.

These politicians are all the same Trapos through and through. They only say what is convenient for them and rotten to the core. GMA, Erap, De Venecia and Cory I say that you can all go to hell.

3 PHILIPPINE PRESIDENTS IN ONE CLASSIC ACT OF STUPIDITY

Cory's apology is one classic act of stupidity involving two other equally stupid presidents which gives reason to the perception that corruption is condoned in this country.

The biggest crook ever caught and convicted for plunder was given presidential pardon by another equally perceived crooked president. And now comes Cory saying sorry to this criminal ex-president and calling Edsa 2 a mistake.

So sad that in the midst of economic tragedy, we have this supposedly intelligent and respectable personality showing the other side of her....such a moronic act....never mind...what can we say...Philippines is going backwards while the rest of the world is trying to overcome the turmoil and lead their countries forward to a new generation.....when we ever learn...

Whatever shred of respect I used to have for Cory has now been dissolved.

You don't have to apologize for helping put crooks behind bars!

Well said. I think the former president should stop talking. She apparently does more harm than good speaking. She had her time at the presidency.

Cory Aquino is a well respected person in our country however this time I think she stepped out of the line. I have always admired her for her courage and will. But given her status and influence, she should have thought twice before saying those words. Even if she meant it sincerely or not. This is insulting to the Filipino who have rallied and suffered just to oust Erap. I mean she should have said sorry to Erap in private rather than letting Filipinos feel how they were misguided by someone who they thought were their leader. By this act, she just showed that the politics in the Philippines is like just a game where every politician changes his/her mind just to survive in their arena.

Even killers could become saints. Robbers could be loved by their beneficiaries, God can forgive. Cory wants to die forgiven and she regretted she messed up others. The word sorry to her is with wisdom unlike others, well, one we know was only joking.

The only good thing former President Cory Aquino ever did was help fuel the People Power to overthrow the Marcoses and their cronies. Other than that she did not do or contribute anything to better the lives of the people or the economy of the Philippines when she was the President. Now she is gonna make a statement that absurd? She is a religious person but she is not above ridicule!! She is way out of line for saying that statement, now she and her son are gonna retract saying it was only a joke? She is the joke along with her Son!! The only President that ever did anything to better the Philippines was Fidel Ramos!!Under his administration, the Philippine economy was on its way to recovery. Now all we got are crooked politicians that are only in politics to in-rich themselves. Erap a convicted former President is now thinking of again running for President!! Only in the Philippines can convicted and toppled politicians can get away from getting sent to jail and run for politics. We reap what we saw when are we ever gonna learn?

I was 24 yrs. old working in Riyadh during the snap election in 1986. I almost lost my father and 2 younger brothers for supporting Cory then and all the way during her term, because we believed in Ninoy and in her too.

Ousting Erap in 2001 was the right thing to do then, just as EDSA 1... how could our former president and wife of our hero Ninoy say sorry for doing the right thing.

I really feel sorry for her...she's no longer the same person we supported but we have no regrets because it was the right thing to support her then.

"EDSA II"

Former Pres. Erap was removed from office because of the impact of the Impeachment Case against him. The entire nation was in agreement with the events that transpired after the suppresion of the Impeachment Proceedings and the rests are part of the history.

Tita Cory's apology to Erap is her personal decision and we respect it but, it can't change the history that Erap is gone as the President of the Philippines on account of his wrongdoings.

Cory uses Erap to be one of their partner to launch an offensive massive rallies and movements against HM, King Anthony S. Martin. This is the whole truth behind apologies to Erap. Don't rather be trusted to their dirty game because we know that Cory was been promised by GMA to cure her nearby end of life because of colon cancer and if she's in deep apologies with Erap why she timely did this when we discovered about troubles they mostly feared when they learned info about HM, King Anthony S. Martin's desire to make an arrangement with Erap. Why they timely did it? because of their hidden desires to the Holy Wealth.

Edsa 2 by the way was not about Singson's expos'e - the 200m jueteng money. It was about the Jose Velarde account accidentally stumblen on, or the attempt not to open it. (Shhh. atin atin lang, bilyones ang laman niyon.)

Maybe next time we delete, it should not be to the Recyclen Bin. Press shift + Del is best

To all the doubting Thomases, those who wont believe Cory's line is the truth, well, they must be lying when they say they believe in the existence of god.

What Cory really wanted to say was that she's sorry that she helped topple Erap, and the resulting successor (Gloria Arroyo) in fact turned out to be the greater evil.

Of course she could not say that in a public forum with Erap present and say that he's the lesser evil.

Cory means well. The joke was in bad taste, but it doesn't diminish her stature.

How would you feel if Cory says now she was also sorry for helping oust Marcos? How can she she be sorry for doing the right thing? I believe Cory was misguided in this respect, to say sorry to Erap.

Cory is my political hero too. However I agree as well, that those who supported the ouster of Erap owe him no apology. The disappointments of GMA's administration will never justify the corruption of Erap. His tenure was not different from that of Gloria, and I cringed to imagine what will be the state of this country if he survived EDSA Dos. It is more likely than not that by this time the Constitution is yet again to be amended to ensure that Erap, who is still in power by virtue of a previous amendment, continues to stay in power( he is popular and could communicate effectively to the masses don't forget) . It is more likely than not that disappearances such as like that of Bentain and Dacer are rampant driving chilling fears among the hearts of many Filipinos especially the opposition. It is more likely than not that we are in a far worse state than the one we find ourselves now. I would even go to the extent of saying that I wouldn't be writing this comment now if Erap survives EDSA Dos because Inquirer has ceased to exist(remember the deliberate and despicable effort of Estrada's sycophants to drive this paper out of business?)

Estrada deserves no apology from anyone. Trust the Inquirer not to be carried away by the great loathing, well deserve or not, of the Arroyo administration and view all these hoopla in its proper perspective and to put it in simple terms, it is Estrada who owes the country an apology. He was found guilty of plunder.

Good for him that he already has received what he considers as a "vindication" and his "best gift" this Christmas. It is time that he gave the best gift he could give the Filipino people. Then, maybe, we could wish him all the best this New Year!

Cory has apologized for her participation in EDSA 2!

I hope this is just a bad dream.

Let us be reminded that People Power is all about PEOPLE. This is not an issue about GMA. No matter how some quarters dislike her.

Erap has been charged and CONVICTED of plunder.

So, there is nothing to apologize Mrs. Aquino. You were right and so with the rest of people who ousted Erap.

You were right when you raised Mrs. Arroyo's hand to succeed Erap as President. This is what the Constitution says.

Merry Christmas to all, anyway!

all the edsa events are coup d'etat. the first 2 edsas booted out a president. the last edsa failed. It's not a question of whether edsa was right or wrong. It's a question of whether we are better off or not after each edsa. clearly aqbuino was sorry because her support for edsa 2 resulted in a worst administration. Everybody agrees with that. Let's not be naive. power belongs to the people who can take it. by election or by coup. it will be a long time before we will have a relatively corrupt free gov't. until that time comes, we just have to settle for a lesser of two evils.

It is not sorry for Cory.
Cory is the most sincere and honest leader we have had.
What Cory did say was right. She was sorry for removing Erap and sorry also for Marcos. They were removed by force.
We know that Cory was just an ordinary plain housewife.
She did not know anything about politics, she did not know about constitution, about government, she was an like us plain citizen.
Now, she realized that politics was dirty, politics is envy and jealousy, politics is hypocrisy.
That she was just used by these politicians in removing Marcos and Erap... in violation of the constitution.
Now that Cory is sick, she realized that mistake, that politics is a dirty trick.
Anyhow, some says when you are sick, you go back to what you are before, and that goes to Cory, she was just being plain Cory, the housewife, the mother.
And if you are plain housewife, then you are the most honest and sincere person again, no hypocrisy, no limitation, walang pagkukunwari.
Let's applaud Cory for being a plain housewife, mother again, who tells the truth.
No Sorry for Cory for the truth sets her free ...
That truth is... don't remove presidents by force... that People Power is a mistake.

To many non-partisan Filipinos, EDSA simply means "fast Forward". Now if we enter this fast forward it looks like we will be going backward!

Kaya manood na lang sila muna habang nagaaway ang mga bakukik at bakukang. (there are exceptions to them of course)

Cory Sincere apology is an admittance that Edsa2 real Hero is Chavit Singson, for he was the real starting point of this revolution, for it was a quarrel of who really gets the jueteng money, especially the hidden envelope that cause the walkout of balimbing senators, resulting this edsa2 revolution event has been disregarded. Unfortunately no one in the philippines has ever notice the root cause of this problem. where because President GMA was successfully installed into power, she is the strongest leader of all time in the philippines. She is the jurisprudence of the philippines in the real world, including the virtual reality world, where is is also in control by not letting the electronic politician senator Trillanes, our Country is forever in the hands of President GMA, our only hope is this coming 2010 election, if it will not be defeated by the dance cha cha, i hope the tango 2010 election will succeed.

Mang Godo,

There you go again in your submissive ways. Presidents ought to serve the people. If they abuse their powers and can't be removed by legal ways, we have to resort to the parliament of the streets. You just don't let them be.

Only dogs would cower and shun a head on collision with an unwanted master, and GMArroyo is no master. She's only a monster.

Anyone who lets her stay has doomed the Filipinos future. I say, if there be war let it be on my days so that our children may have peace.

Let arroyo stay in power. That is the shout of a retard!!!

Mang Godo,
There you go again in your submissive way
++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Mr. Pogito,

I am not submissive, I am for legal ways.
Just read the constitution and it is enumerated the ways to remove the president.
Abuse of power is when press freedom is curtailed, but here we are throwing all dirt's to the president without respect and the president is doing nothing to you.

There is no such thing as parliament on the streets, streets is for pedestrians and some mobs too where force, threat and intimidation is the name of the game.

I don't cower for anybody for there is no master in this world, for I am the captain and master of soul.
Arroyo is not a monster literally for she's so small to be one but maliit na nakakapuwing.

Let Arroyo stay in power for her term has not end for tenure of office of the president is fixed, let her time expired.
This is the shout of the learned, intelligent and smart but most of all law abiding.

Mang Godo, you said "the president is doing nothing to me." That is very wrong! What she does reverberates to the far corners of the earth and reaches every filipino wherever they may be. Now, what she doesn't do affects us even more.

Had my taxes been properly used and not gone to your erstwhile friends - Abalos, Garci, Jocjoc, Pidal - then that would have been fine by me.

But no, she dips in everyone's pocket with a malevolent smile previously showed only by the devil.

No, she is not a monster. Monsters are creatures of the night told to kids to arrest and diminished the pompousity of youth. GMArroyo is the real devil by night and day. The devil would shun away when compared to her.

Law abiding citizens follow what is right, the spirit of the law. In GMA's rule, there is only lawlessness. Where were you leaving the past 6 years Mang Godo? In the enchanted Kingdom?

Now that is something to be sorry for.

The stupid remarks of POGITO goes again.

Well, it may be running in the family pehaps, bloggers should be understanding about him.

Pogito wants a bloody war just for PGMA ouster??? A retard attitude really is in the genes inherited from the ancestry(Pogito's).

Bloggers can only sigh (or laugh), either.

The way I see it, the "apology" should be treated with utmost suspicion, given it was handed out shortly before the 2010 elections. *Sniff* smell that? It reeks of the pungent aroma of politicking.

@mang godo
I for one have grown extremely tired of resorting to rallies to try to oust our leaders. They do more damage than they're worth.

I do look forward to the 2010 elections, especially as I watch Arroyo's underlings act ever so desperately.

It means they fully understand the gravity of the situation - With their queen gone, they are marked for death. Let them marinade in their anxiety and fears - it will be deliciously kicking them off their pedestals when the time comes.

POGITO, if you call for a revolution and nobody came what do you do? I think people have learned some lessons from Edsa 1 and 2. Both events failed miserably to people's expectations. No more will people respond to calls for the removal of a president in an unconstitutional process especially if those calling for it are themselves have questionable political objectives. If a president cannot be impeached the last resort is the Sandiganbayan where a corrupt leader like Erap who after stepping down from office was sued, found guilty and convicted of the crime of plunder.

To be found guilty in a court of law is definitely much better than a highly biased political impeachment trial.

Well, I always read every newspaper in the world like LA times, USA today, New York times, Arab News;every internet site like yahoo, google even facebook;
TV stations like CNN, KCAL tv and many more.
Yet I have not found any news about GMA or the Philippines.
To tell you frankly, to be in the international news the country or the president must be doing something atrocious and horrible like Mugabe of Zimbabwe, the Iraq war, the famine in Africa, the drugs in Colombia, the killings and corruption in Mexico... these are the international news.
Well, about Philippines or GMA, nobody cares... just read this Inquirer and that's it, it is the only paper that cares... to broadcast her undoings which pales in comparison to other presidents in the world.
Reverberates.... maybe in your ears only.

De los Reyes, just because the two edsas failed - in the context that it failed to wipe out tyrants like GMA - doesn't mean we have to stop trying. Etrenal vigilance is the price we pay for democracy and freedom. If we let down our guard, we'll have power hungry midgets perpetuating a rule in malacanang.

Mang Godo, GMA fans never fail to fascinate me. So, you were living in an enchanted kingdom after all. Did you had your fair share of the taxpayers money too? Are you by any way related to mike pidal? Garci or Abalos? Well, enjoy while it lasts...

By the way, is this link to the jungle book? Why am I reading GMArroyos dogs blurb? Nevertheless, welcome Jangjang. You've been missed. I never thought you could recover from a lobotomy. Take it easy, will yah?

If we don't act now, as the rest of the tongressmen say "GMArroyo for 2010 and beyond"

Pare Godo, maybe the world is just bored of us Filipinos ( our President and our politicians in general) :-)
