This is disheartening. We will pray for the Dela Paz’s. That they get justice and may the Pangandaman’s get their time in jail.

It doesn’t matter who started the fight, the Pangandamans had bodyguards and these gave them the higher/stronger force. They are obliged to exercise more restraint. Instead, as is typical with those in power, they acted arrogantly (”what are in we in power for” attitude). Shame on them. Such lack of moral scruples should not be left unpunished. And punished severely. It’s about time…

I am not a confrontational person and not at all that interested in politicians but it’s this sort of thing that gets to my nerves enough to go out to streets and demand justice! He kept saying hindi mo ba ako kilala as he continued beating the Dela Paz, well he got his wish, we know who the b@st@rd is now and nothing short of jail time and his father kicked out of the government would satisfy me.
dubaiguy
Government officials who erred should be meted punishments more severe and brutal than ordinary citizens just like what China do to their corrupt politicians ( a bullet to the back of the head).
If these are imposed.. i guess we will have a better government.

The Pangandaman’s shall not be sent to jail but send to Sapang Dalaga and implement CARP. Then they will get what they want (War) from the landlords.

One word to describe the Pangandaman escapade: MAKAPAL!
Macs Rellik
Another example of Arroyo officials’ dedication to service. If the secretary has delicadeza, he should resign. But that is asking too much from anyone in the Arroyo government.

This is a CLEAR ABUSE of power. The Pangandamans should be ASHAMED….clearly they are not and just apologizing for political purposes. Would you want your children to experience seeing their father get beaten up? This is a question that must be asked to the so called goverenment officials involved. This is one of the reasons why I left the country…….. you have government officials who think they are above the law. My heart goes to the Dela Paz family.
rick
it must be a slow news day for the media to pickup on this story. These rich guys have money to spend on golf. Who cares if it they beat each other up?
MARTA
Let us not allow goons like the Pangandanans to be members of public entertainment areas like golf clubs. Our children are not safe anymore even places like this.I thought it is only in Abu Sayaf land you have to be wary about.
Joel Bonzon
Isn’t the reluctance of Valley Golf Country club staff and management a sign that those in power are using it to their advantage?
Can’t they be fair to the Dela Paz family and lay the facts straight instead of keeping their mouths shut?
They will have their day like the Pangandaman’s too!
Morals have deteriorated indeed…

Panganda..whatever.. calls this a BRAWL. Pls. do not insult our intelligence. This is more of a beating and a mugging.
Mr. Big Time Politician.

This is soooooooo stupid!!!people are suffering from poverty and all we get is a DAR secretary getting into a brawl because of golf????stupid stupid stupid!!what the f*** are our government officials doing???the poor farmers need help and urgently need it now, this reflects how the filipinos have become so stupid these days!!!

This is in reply to what Dubaiguy commented dated December 29, 2008, at 8:13 p.m. claiming of imposing heavier penalties for corrupt government officials. In the first place, I agree with you, I even commend you for your courage to suggest that. What you have just suggested may even be helpful in the population reduction in this overpopulated country of ours, some of whom are merely contributors in the rising criminality of this country. However, there is one very big question worth asking: Who is brave enough to implement or even suggest/propose a bill like that? Knowing fully well that majority of our politicians (roughly 69%) are corrupt, or have such vested interests, whose only interest are theirs and theirs alone, damn their constituents?

I hate these kind of people, more so we’re employing (& subsidising) them with our hard earned taxes. Is it time for popular public clamor to remove these people from office, a signature campaign perhaps. We’re stakeholders of this country, we must have decent executives.
chrisv
stupid stupid stupid government officials…the poor farmers are going hungry and this is what they’ve been doing after all???playing golf and get into a fight???what the hell is going on with the philippine government???

Paging Mrs. President!
Another to describe the Pangandamans: Walang hiya.
At least I did not say mga P….I… ala Mar Roxas.
What are you still doing in DAR? You should step down Mr. Pangandaman.
Karma is coming your way, anyway.

Shame on PGMA if she will insist retaining the services of Pangandanan Sr. Since she is the one who appoint UnderSecretarys, she is but duty bound to terminate his service.
With regards to Pangandanan Jr., the Ombudsman should investigate and terminate his service too.

Eh laro yan ng mga puti, ang americano may etiquette dahil ang golf originated sa scotland/britain, the source of golf and etiquette, so they follow the rules.
bayani magtanggol
The Pangandams claim they were also beaten. but they can’t even show a scratch. Common sense will tell you a father with his children in tow will not fight powerful people with goons right there and then. Sec. Pangandaman should resign and join the Abu Sayaf he rightly belongs there.
Marc
This is just so disheartening to read, and I cant help myself to post comments in regards to the abuse of power from so called member or officials of government bullying its own citizenry. It’s even outrageous to hear the side story of the goon’s pointing back the blame to Dela Paz and his 14 year old boy. I’m a golfer, and one of the places where I can enjoy the peacefulness of the outdoors is the golf course. It takes patience, humbleness, and honesty in order to play this game, thats why they call the gentlemans sports. Bully’s like the secretary, the mayor, and his bunch of goons, doesnt belong in a golf course. All I could think of this clowns is trying to be a “wanna be” in a sport that they dont understand, it’s rules and conduct, it’s traditions, and it’s culture.

Good thing the De la Paz family have money and are educated people. Just imagine if this happened to a poor family. The incident will just go unnoticed or unheard by the media and the Pangandamans will continue to appear like holy angels in the public eye.
De los Reyes
Yeah, sure, RICK, you’re probably not rich enough to have said that (8).
You’re saying this cannot happen to you because you are not rich and not playing golf is that it? But let’s say you were miserably poor as a rat and you see your brother or dad being mauled by one abusive war freak government official, what are you going to do about it?
vic e
This is exactly what’s wrong with the Philippines. A mayor of some small town and a department head of agriculture doesn’t really sound like positions that should be all that “powerful”. But they go on to say “Hindi mo ba ako kilala?”. This is what everyone in the government seems to say these days - from this mayor and department secretary, to the SP01 drunk in the brothel when asked to leave, to the assistant of the secretary of some judge - they all feel some kind of false entitlement. This false sense of entitlement is also what makes jeepneys stop in the middle of the road without consideration of all the traffic they cause behind them. We Filipinos have so little power that whatever little we could get away with goes into our heads and starts to define who we are.
Josh Centro
Yet another example of thugs you call government officials, beating the hell out of ordinary people. Think it was an unfortunate incident? That was nothing compared to what those Mafia do in the provinces. I’m surprised why they haven’t cut off Dela Paz’s tongue for speaking to the media. No wonder why the house of representa-thieves want to the “Gloria Forever Cha-Cha” so they can enjoy her protection. Happy New Year to you Mr. Dela Paz.
Antonio Yang III
@rick
I care it’s probably my tax money - freshly pilfered from my hard-earned salary - that has been funding Pangandaman’s escapade on the golf course.
This isn’t even a matter of golf etiquette anymore - don’t they arrest people for assault? Why not submit these fat cats to the same treatment as everybody else?
Jimmy
Elected politicians are servant for the people and their salaries comes from the taxes we pay.It is disheartening to know that such elected politicians do violates the law and abuse their authority by beating up minor and innocent civilians. The Pangandaman’s should be punished to the FULL extent of the law & let the media broadcast this case till justice is served to the Dela Paz family.

Government officials are held to a higher level of behavior and conduct and imposes stiffer penalties for those guilty of impropriety. For the DAR Secretary to turn a blind eye and allowing his son (also a government official) to inflict harm to another person in his presence is highly inappropriate. The honorable option is for both Pangandaman to tender their resignation, otherwise the law could be unforgiving. We should see to that.
Mr. Suwabe

The problem with these government officials is that they are appointed to their position not because of their professional qualification but a political consideration.
And lots of them are not qualified at all. The politics thru patronages will never be fair to us, ordinary people who has to toil our daily bread while you people in the government squanders it.
Pangandaman is a classic example of this government official. He is a bareface liar when he said he was not around when de la Paz (father) was mauled further by his son’s tugs.
Then he said, “His son did not start the trouble.”
His two statements contradict. The first one means he was not around during the incident. The second statement means, he saw the encounter and did not mediate.
Romulo Neri is another example on how PGMA has shamelessly shuffle her “favorite” officials at the expense of career officials belonging to the rank and files. People who know better how to run their agency.
From NEDA, Romulo Neri, because of the NBN-ZTE scandal, was appointed as UnSec. of Department of Education. He left DepEd with another anomally, the 500 million over-prices and impractical outsourcing venture which after three months was mothballed.
Now, Romulo Neri is in the SSS. I am anxious what possible mischief he is about to do.
There are lots of misfits occupying delicate government position, yet if the Chief Executive is herself insensitive to proprietness, what can we tax payer do. Wait for 2010?
rick
to delosreyes and Antonio,
I’m not defending anyone. If I see someone beating a person, I’d probably try to break up the fight. This incident is just a case where 2 golfers jawing each other until one side decided to get physical. My opinion is that we should not waste our time with rich people’s fights. By the way, have you ever thought if those rich people at the clubhouse cared about anything but themselves?
mang godo
Golf is the only sports I have not played but I have golf club and know little holding, swing and putting.
But I have not played in a course for I thought golf is the sports of the rich and famous, most of all etiquette and respected people…. meaning I am a little bit shy to mingle for etiquette.
As what what happened in golf course brawl, the more I will not play in course as golf is the sports of uneducated, barbaric, goons people…pardon me tiger woods or jack Nicklaus… what i mean is the Philippines not US.
Mr. M. Yabang

- don’t let this injustice come to pass
- you know Israel’s leader Mr. Olmert was investigated by the police for corruption. Nothing politics, plain police matter. He relented to resign… And here is a hoodlum mayor being spoiled by his politician father. Where is the police initiative? Waiting for the signal for somebody up there? This is the country’s incurable disease that has in us for so long now.
- let the noise continue to be heard until justice is served: to the golf course management; to the police organization; to DAR; to the Department of JUstice; and to the President if necessary
-injustices breeds when people are indifferent, when few cares, when there ’s no persistence on us people for justice be done
- kudos to every one here who cares, who concerned themselves. KEEP UP THE TEMPO.

Pangandaman is a big fat political joke in the Philippines. That goes to all the politicians too who think they are the gods of the poor people.

we are who we are. and pls. do not kid yourself. we all knew from the gitgo that nothing will happen to pangandaman follies.
pangandaman’s obtuse sense of being is a true pinoy’s attributes and plain old example of what the pinoy are.
pinoy’s fascination and fetishism to title and the privilege that goes with the position makes him think he is immortal.
so do’nt be suprise and act like this is the first time we all have witnessed this kind of travesty in justice.
locke’s once wrote in his treatise, absolute power corrupt and power corrupt absolutely(ca.1600). he,locke, must have pinoys in his mind when coined the phrase.

We do not know who is right and who is wrong in that Valley Golf Club incident but after the happening, the government should confine all government officials, including judges and legislators, to government golf courses. There, they can compete among themselves their golfing skills, arrogance and ill-manners. There will also be less chance for shady deals or corruption and they are free to kill each other if they want to — using balls and clubs. That may be best way to get rid of some of the undesirables; at least some of them die while enjoying the game.

PGMA is the culprit who appointed Pangandaman as UnderSec. of CARP. What is she waiting for? Why not fire him right away?
Is PGMA and her cohorts going to twist the law to protect Pangandaman?

I am wondering why PMA Class 71, the so-called RAM boys are not presently making any noise?
Well, this is just a hypothesis or conjecture, but, most likely, it may be true; that almost all of them are well entrench in our government. Take the Senators, there is Ping Lacson and Gringo Honasan. Where is Red Kapunan? His appointment in the government keeps on changing. From Department of Immigration, he transferred to the Department of Foreign Affairs. From there he again transfer to a government’s Aviation Agency. His appointment from one Department to another happens is a short span of time.
I have a short encounter with some of these people way back 1972 at the height of the rebellion in Cotobato between the government and the Muslim.
I just could not forget what Gringo and Red said about our government at that time. They said that if our government does not behave (which means get rid of corruption), something will happen.
Indeed, ten years later, they almost succeeded. The PMA class 71 stages a coup.
But that was four decades ago. Perhaps, before then, out of youthfull idealism, their moral value was at a premium over material interest.
For Senator Gringo Honasan, he is acting strange lately after he won the Senatorial candidacy. He became as docile as a lamb. Let us not forget that before he submits his Senatorial candidacy, a charge of treason, or sedition was looming over his head. Then, suddenly everything was quiet.
Noticably, he is always near Senator Enrile, who has change side from Opposition to Administration. He, together with Senator Enrile, even attends Cabinet meetings in Malacanang as though Senate is now dictated by PGMA instead of being co-equal and an independent body.
Never mind the likes of Senator Jess Lapid and Senator Bong Revilla. At least these actors show their true color. But for a former idealist like Gringo Honasan, I just couldn’t figure it out.
And lately, Justice Undersecretary Ricardo Blancaflor, who belongs to the civilian component of RAM got embroiled with PDEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) for meddling with the release of the ‘Ayala Boys’, accuse of peddling drugs.
I am just thinking aload. What is happening to you boys? Have you thrown your moral values, your principle, and dignity overboard?
Can you not see; our present government is worst than any you were trying to dislodge before!

Get rid of the itch mga oppositionist. You will never win against Gloria.

Let get our own acts not to rally in the streets but to at least help ourselves and the country by not cooking a destabilization plot.
Help in the employment of our unemployed kababayans, in nourishing the poor, in making our country a safe, quiet and progressive place.

Oh oh!…there seems to be an amicable settlement cooking up between the de la Pazes and Pangandamans.
All the justice seeking, fired-up bloggers and concerned citizens would have had just been taken for a ride after all by these support seeking selfishness. Same old script. What a waste.
Call that insensitivity.
Where would we go from here?
PDEA’s Marcelino is our last hope against the hoodlums in robes. We hope and pray he delivers.
Filipinos need a lot of heroes to turn the tide of justice system in the country…
