Since the MMDA has begun tearing down traffic obstructions, such as the hazardous waiting sheds, they should go a step further by taking out the massive billboards that distract drivers. The C-5 road has a number of these that need tearing down. And they should ban all posters or billboards that show faces of politicians and government officials. The roads and structures, the traffic flow, the ongoing repairs and improvements should be enough to remind the people of what these officials have done. Besides, we don’t owe them. It is THEY. This early, they should firm up the rules about using the highways for political ads for the 2010 elections.

You are right! I myself have mentioned these eyesore many times. The likes of Mayor Feliciano Belmonte, Councilor Inton, Vice Mayor Herbert Bautista, and so many other councilors of Quezon City have the penchant of putting large tarpulin and streamers all over Quezon City.
They must be entertaining themselves solely on the wrong notion that installing these eyesores would make Quezon City constituents feel beholden to them.
Mayor Feliciano Belmonte is the original egotist who concocts the idea of putting billboards with his ugly face to all the city projects, “PROPAGANDA STYLE.”
And sad to say, it worked! He became popular. Little did we, of Quezon City, knew that these Mayor and his councilors will ultimately make the people suffer for the unjustifiable increases in taxes, which is for a long time is beyond our means.
Also, Councilor Inton of Quezon City always has a photographer around, just like the other egocentric, the likes of PGMA, and Mayor Feliciano Belmonte, hanging around taking his pictures.
Repeatedly, you will see the picture of Councilor Inton in the Major Newspapers. In fact, I was in one of the Barangay Meeting in Quezon City, when in the presence of the Audience, this councilor brought out a Bank Check, wrote down certain amount, and handed it to the Barangay Chairman. You can just imagine how ilated the audience was, they cheer him up endlessly and gave him a standing ovation. Naturally his photographer was busy taking his picture on different angle.
To cut it short, we, the tax payer must realize that with thousands and thousands of pesos spent on these tarpulin, just guess where the money paid on this items came from.
I have seen many press releases of Councilor Inton. Most likely, he may be planning to run as Mayor on the next election. But, what an unneccessary expenses for the taxpayers of Quezon City.
Hoy! Pera namin yang winawaldas ninyo!

Hundreds of waiting sheds line up the length of Edsa, but not all of them are eye sores let alone hazardous. They do serve their purpose for the benefit of pedestrians and commuters waiting for bus rides. Nonetheless, MMDA boss Bayani Fernando wants all of them removed much to the disappointment of the company that spent millions to put them there which also serve as the convenient ad placements for its products. Guess who owns this company? Fernando’s fiercest critic Rep. Roilo Golez. That’s tit for tat, I would say.

Ahhh, the typical filipino trait: Posterizing their idiotic faces when election is coming..I totally agree with you wonderwoman, these idiotic politicians will inscribe their ugly names in a can of sardines just to gain popularity come election time. Pathetic!!!you wont see these type of practice in most progressive nations. The funniest thing though is that people still vote for mayor Otik and congressman Utak-bubwit!!!

I am a resident of the city of Manila. My neighbor had block a narrow street going to our inner lot for 5 years ( 2004 ) of complain to the Manila Building official including now Engineer Edgar Soriano of the Office of the building official and yet NOTHING was done even when this November , when his inspector recommended the opening of the said narrow street in Tondo and the said blockage can not be justified as reason.
I had wrote The city assessor for a total refund in all realty tax payment since I can not use and even take possession of our lot and the reply was their request to the Manila City Engineer Armando andres to immediately open up the said narrow public street in 2008 ( now its 2009 ) but still nothing was done by engr Armando andres from the time of Mayor Atienza. I dont know why o why or what had my neighbor feed them to eat. I dont know if Mayor Lim knows what his people are up to.
I even request for stop payment of realty tax payment but the city treasurer office said I can not do it.
What shall I do and I need help badly. I NEED JUSTCE. I thought that the LAW APPLIES TO ALL OTHERWISE NONE TO ALL

I feel sorry for our country for what our little president did in one of her past visits in the “States.” She was playing favorite by visiting America’s Presidential Aspirant, John McCain, which could be construed that she is indorsing McCain, and snob the now President Barak Obama. The incident happen at the middle of the fierce struggle between the two contenders, and each of the candidates was so despirate to sway any vote no matter how small, in their favor. That was the time the two candidates was slugging it out because the fight was so close and almost equal in ranking as per survey.
Our president has another diplomatic blundered before the President Barak Obama’s, when she brought home our Philippine Contingent from Irag, at the height of the despirate call by Ex President George Bush for countries to rally behind America to contribute troops to Irag.
Still, another one was when our little president went to China, sometime in the past, and brought her two toddles (grandchildren), and their yayas, among her other hangers-on. Those hangers-on include members of her political party like congressmen and their wives, some governors, and the press. Of course, lowly “Juan de la Cruz” puts up all the bills, to both the CHARTERED COMMERCIAL AIRCRAFT and her entourage’s per diems. All expenses paid for, by Juan de la Cruz.
That is how low we can go. Modesty aside, our little president should have stayed away from playing favorite during the heated campaign in the United State election. Moreover, this could be the reason why Barak Obama snob her three congratulation calls, considering that President Barak Obama, right away return the calls of other countries.
Nevertheless, perhaps, President Barak Obama must have change his mind and played along with our president superficial diplomatic game. He returned her call after almost a month. The U.S. Presidents action perhaps is a double edge blade. One, he must have said, “I am not as low as you are.” And the second is; President Barak Obama wants her to feel insignificant like what she did to him.”
On the China visit, she broke the diplomatic protocol (ethics) by bringing along the YAYAS and her grand children. It is a normal practise for host country to pay the accomodation of visiting dignitaries. It is uncalled for to oblidges China to pay for yayas and grandchildren no matter how small it was.
Now, it is pay up time. Not withstanding the fact that the Philippines, known to be second most corrupt in the world and most corrupt in Asia, knowing how President Barak Obam, as what he mentioned in his Inagural speech, he will be serious on dealing with countries whoes government plunders their coffers.
On the Irag incident, she shows that she is just a fair weathered friend. A deserter.
Let us just watch how little “gloria” will get along with the new President of the United States.

RE: EYE SORES
I completely agree with “wonderwoman. These politicians have the gall to display their utter arrogance and disregard to public opinion.
Here in Cainta, all the main roads are teeming with tarpaulin signs of Mayor Mon Ilagan and his cohorts who just want to impress the voting populace that they are untouchables in spending public funds.
I agree with you, “PERA NAMIN IYAN HUWAG NAMAN NINYONG WALDASIN SA MGA WALANG KWENTANG BAGAY”!

It is real really an eyesore. You cannot appreciate the beauty of the building structures, the sky, the clouds, the trees because, all those bilboards obstruct the view. Maraming kawad ng kuryente, mga poste na pangit. Poste ng billboards na maraming kalawang. Advertisements na kung saan saan nakalagay. Magulo! Hindi presentable. Blame it to the person in charge. Whoever is in charge, he/she doesn’t sense of visual tidiness. He/she needs to see, research, have a good understanding and knowledge on how to regulate where, when, what, when to place these things in an appropriate place or area. Please improve!!!!!!

There was a typographical error: all those bilboards-it is, all those billboards and, instead of doesn’t sense visual tidiness, it is doesn’t have sense of visual tidiness. Thanks. Lorie Pabilic

Talking about posters and billboards; when you see public structures painted in pink and blue, you know it is the trademark of another egomaniac. The colors carry a subtle but insidious message and even children know what the guy is trying to convey. That man would be just too happy to tear down his opponents’ posters.

So many years back, the problem of spoiling the Generals was well discribed by the late Soliven, an editor and a mayority stock holder of MALAYA newspaper.
He made a comment during the time of late President Marcos about using divide and conquer technic to break up the military. The President Marcos during the Martial Law rewarded the Military Junior officers loyal to him, promotions bypassing officers that are more senior. General Ver is a perfect example This General was way down the ranks, yet, he was promoted as Chief of the Arm Forces on the besis of his close relationship with President Marcos. With so little experience, he bypasses so many General on top of him.
According to the late Soliven, this was a “divide and conquer” technique. After that, those loyal to President Marcos were even rewarded with civilian positions after they retire (as what is happening now), and the question of moral issue came in.
Before President Marcos mess up the promotions, Military men were more professionals, and are solely concern with the national security. They were professional soldiers with high moral standard and integrety.
As a result, distroying the seniority system as basis for promotion, Generals in the military became salivating lap-dogs willing to sacrifice their morality and sense of proprietness in exchange for quick promotions and civilian positions once retired.
Even before the pre-Garci Generals scandal, the culture of corruption was already prevalent among Ex Generals turn Commissioners. There is no guarantee that they will uphold the phrase “Officer and a Gentlemen.”
From Comissioner of Customs to Commissioner of Transportation, from Commissioner in DPWH, all they way to other Department Heads, these military men has a dismal record.
Take the Department of Transportation and Communications run by former four-star general Leandro Mendoza. He was the Department head of that agency when a 200 million-consultation fee paid to a foreign consultant on the MRT. That amount was only a pittance. More millions were paid to that questionable firm on succeeding payments. The question is the MRT was normally operating, why for heavens name will you pay almost 600 million pesos of Juan de la Cruz money!
Leandro Mendoza was also the bare face liar who defended the NBN-ZTE during the Senate Investigation.
Another ExGeneral, former four-star general Hermogenes Ebdane Department of Public Works and Highways is another bare face liar. During (again) the Senate Investigation of then Ex Senate President Villar’s scam in diverting C-5 extension, this ExGeneral vehemently denied that property owners where the C-5 would pass were already paid. Sad to say, the witty Senator Jambie Madrigal who throw a seemingly innocent question has entrap general Hermogenes Ebdane. She has in her possession complete records of lot owners that were already paid. And Senator Villar,s 12 subdivisions was paid, not on the going rate of 4,000 per square meters but a wooping 40,000 per squaremeters. Again, the money of Juan de la Cruz was jeopardized on these shaddy deals.
Arturo Lomibao, already implicated on the “Hello Garci” scandal, never learn his lesson. After retiring in the PNP, he again went to Maguindanao, together with another retired military man, in the person of the dreaded butcher, ExGeneral Palparan.
The question in everybodys mind is what are these two retired General doing in Maguindanao during the second local election, which ended with the winning of the Senator of Maguindanao, Miquel Zubiri, an administration candidate. Remember, the Senator of Maguindanao is the author of another scam, the Jeotropa (alternate fuel) project! Mind you, that project is funded to the tune of 4 to 5 billion pesos of Juan de la Cruz money! It is just a fiction when this bare face liar said that we can devote millions of hectares to the planting of Jeotropa (alternate fuel). He lies!
The tenants all over the Philippines has already a serious problem of having their own land, what more the stupid idea of million hectares for Jeotropa.
The Customs Bureau is also headed by another Ex General. According to the world bank, Philippines got about 170 billion pesos worth of imports. Why then is Customs declaring 98 billion pesos worth of imports? Where is the descrepancy?
Most likely, the difference of 72 billion imports comprises the sumuggled goods. Smugglers is having a hay-day in the Philippines. From electronics, poultry, ban pork from China, fire crackers,,,,,,,,,,, you name it, they have it.
This is how corrupt our government is. Yet, here is the catch. These STUPID EX GENERALS are the once running our government.
So, can we now conclude that converting or the militarization of our Bureaus, and Commissions, and Department, headed by STUPID GENERALS, resulted to a dismal failure?
While ExGeneral, former four-star general Hermogenes Ebdane Department of Public Works and Highways thinks he is off the hook, he has just have to visit, even once, the reconstruction of half of Samar National Highway, to see for himself how he failed to serve Juan de la Cruz. Samar highway is the epitome of substandard road building.
Ebdane, ang hirap sa iyo Exgeneral, eh, mabango ka sa Malakanyang, haya lang, mabaho ka sa sambayanang Pilipino!

I’m not writing this letter so that I can change Pres. Arroyo’s mind but rather to help others with open minds understand that Arroyo should be responsible for her own actions. The nitty-gritty of what I’m about to write is this: Arroyo has vowed that eventually she’ll elevate incontinent boors to the sublime. This is hardly news; Arroyo has been vowing that for months with the regularity of a metronome. What is news is that she hates people who have huge supplies of the things she lacks. What Arroyo lacks the most is common sense, which underlies my point that in her quest to inflict more death and destruction than Genghis Khan’s hordes she has left no destructive scheme unutilized. Arroyo is more than merely resentful. She’s über-resentful. In fact, Arroyo’s so resentful that her sound bites are built on lies and they depend on make-believe for their continuation.
Arroyo’s older long-term goals were self-righteous enough. Her latest ones are undoubtedly beyond the pale. The question, therefore, must not be, “How long shall there continue uncompromising carousers to vend and bad-tempered ragamuffinesses to gulp so low a piece of quislingism as Arroyo’s effusions?” but rather, “What in perdition does Arroyo think she’s doing?”. The latter question is the better one to ask because we have a right, an indisputable, inalienable, indefeasible, divine right to encourage opportunity, responsibility, and community. But that’s not all: I know some superstitious, fork-tongued reprobates who actually believe that anyone who dares to create a world in which Maoism, phallocentrism, and recidivism are all but forgotten can expect to suffer hair loss and tooth decay as a result. Incredible? Those same people have told me that the majority of offensive morons are heroes, if not saints. With such people roaming about, it should come as no surprise to you that she intends to create a new social class. Maledicent galoots, insipid twerps, and disingenuous, spiteful buttinskies will be given aristocratic status. The rest of us will be forced into serving as their stooges.
According to the latest scientific evidence, Arroyo wants all of us to believe that anyone who disagrees with her is ultimately feebleminded. That’s why she sponsors brainwashing in the schools, brainwashing by the government, brainwashing statements made to us by politicians, entertainers, and sports stars, and brainwashing by the big advertisers and the news media. She is willing—even eager—to jettison her scruples in order to stay ahead of the pack. Which brings me to my next criticism of Arroyo. While this country still has far to go before people are truly judged on the content of their character, it is hardly surprising that she wants to bar people from partaking in activities that cannot be monitored and controlled. After all, this is the same litigious dingbat whose jaundiced prattle informed us that everyone and everything discriminates against her—including the writing on the bathroom stalls.
In this land which has befriended villainous scum, Arroyo has conspired, plotted, undermined, prostituted, and corrupted, and—hiding to this hour behind the braver screen of unregenerate televangelists—dares to contrive and scheme the death of every principle that has protected her. Accompanying this recognition of the indeterminateness of verifiability with regard to an external, objective reality has been a crisis regarding our ability to know that one of her adherents once said, “All it takes to solve our social woes are shotgun marriages, heavy-handed divorce laws, and a return to some mythical 1950s Shangri-la.” Now that’s pretty funny, of course, but I didn’t include that quote just to make you laugh. I included it to convince you that at least 80 percent of the people in this country recognize that Arroyo’s epigrams have been a millstone around our neck for quite some time. Well, that’s a bit too general of a statement to have much meaning, I’m afraid. So let me instead explain my point as follows: It is more than a purely historical question to ask, “How did Arroyo’s reign of terror start?” or even the more urgent question, “How might it end?”. No, we must ask, “Will Arroyo’s animal cunning, arrogance, greed, and self-aggrandizement grant Arroyo a final victory over humanity?” Well, we all know the answer to that question, don’t we? But in case you don’t, then you should note that Arroyo demands absolute and blind obedience from her idolators. If she didn’t, they might question her orders to conjure up dirt against her fellow human beings. This unrelenting demand of obedience also implies that Arroyo wants to produce an army of mindless insects who will obey her every command. To produce such an army, she plans to destroy people’s minds using either drugs or an advanced form of lobotomy. Whichever approach she takes, on the issue of mandarinism, Arroyo is wrong again. Sure, she behaves as if she’s been lobotomized. But Arroyo’s disquisitions are designed to impale us on the pike of totalitarianism. And they’re working; they’re having the desired effect.
Does Arroyo honestly expect us to believe that profits come before people? Well, once you begin to see the light, you’ll realize that she carries the seeds of her own self-destruction. And here, I assert, lies a clue to the intellectual vacuum so gapingly apparent in her viewpoints. As a practical matter, adversarialism has served as the justification for the butchering, torture, and enslavement of more people than any other “ism”. That’s why it’s Arroyo’s favorite; it makes it easy for her to marginalize dissident voices. A brief study of sociology will show one inescapable fact: When Arroyo was first found trying to turn once-flourishing neighborhoods into zones of violence, decay, and moral disregard, I was scared. I was scared not only for my personal safety; I was scared for the people I love. And now that Arroyo is planning to promote a form of government in which religious freedom, racial equality, and individual liberty are severely at risk, I’m downright terrified. Pres. Arroyo’s disciples believe a conspiracy of uncivilized exploitative-types control banking, foreign policy, and the media. Do give that some thought.

The MMDA maybe doing petty follies in their drive against illegal vendors but is essentially right as a whole and good for the country in the long run.
So far, Bayani Fernando had the staunchest will as a Chairman of the MMDA in its history.
May I mention the past inutility and corrupt ways and practices of Jojo Binay and Ben Abalos during their terms as MMDA chief.
So to those who read my comment, lets give the Philippines a favor…..by not putting in govt positions of people like Binay, Erap and Abalos. Im sure we’ll make this country proud again!
