It is deplorable to see the high-handed action of the school administration of the Quezon City High School (QCHS). It is very sad to see bright and progressive students being subject to disciplinary action without due process, for airing grievances, for saying in a truthful manner how they think about their school environment, and their feelings about their school administrator. I must point out to the QCHS administrators and faculty that the Philippines is still a working democracy. Less they have forgotten, under a democracy, people are allowed to air their grievances and feelings. A valid grievance will not be resolved by suppressing through suspensions. Instead, resolve the root cause. Less the school administrators and faculty have forgotten, QCHS is a special curriculum school, and their students belong to the upper cream of the country’s high school students. Their students have the potential to be future leaders and scientists of our country. They should be shown good example of the democratic ways. Baka naman hindi na alam ng pamunuaan ng paaralan kung ano ang demokrasya dahil na rin sa mga nakikita nilang action ng national government. The school environment is a microcosm, a small reflection of the greater Filipino society. Kapag ikinulong mo ang ibon, ito ay magpupumigals at pilit na aalpas upang ang kaniyang mga pakpak malayang maipagaspas.

Well, these kids are still in high school to be disciplined.
It is too early for these high schoolers to know what is right and wrong and we should guide them.
And discipline is guidance.
The QC high school administration is right.
Academic freedom is guidance and counseling for these kids to become good citizens of the country.

It saddens me to realize that even our schools, institutions of free thought and wisdom, now behave like the Arroyo admin - quick to silence any vocal critics of their methods.
My suspicions were correct - there is a conspiracy to keep us all stupid.

Kudos! to Mr. De Leon and the Tarlac Provincial Board for blocking not just the destruction, but also the desecration, of a historic building. We should send this message to all the local governments from the urban to the rural communities, that it is also through historical landmarks that foreigners and our future generations will get to know of our history.
Every modern city from London to New York To Tokyo to Makati all look the same. It is through these landmarks that people can see something from our past. That is why in most cities in Europe, if one is to demolish an old building (there you have structures that are centuries-old), one has to keep the same facade and modernize the interiors all they way they want. In Singapore, one still sees these century-old structures and in the backdrop, one sees all these modern skyscrapers. Don’t tear down the old to build the new because by doing so, a city or a province will show no history, no inherent character of its own. That is what distinguishes every modern city from the other modern cities -the presence of these historical landmarks.

Did these students commit any actual acts of violence? Did they actively deface or physically threaten a member of the school?
All they did was voice their disagreement on a blog - suspending them on this grounds is tantamount to punishing somebody just because you overheard them speaking ill of you.
Discipline is important indeed for high schoolers, but the school goes too far. By suspending students for their dissenting views, all you will be doing is sending the message that ANY form of disagreement, valid or not, will not be tolerated.
That is not disciplining or guidance, Mr. Godo - that is tyranny. I assumed that our experience under Marcos would have given us ample time to understand the importance of this lesson.
If this school was serious about trying to help these kids, I think they should have opened up proper dialogue for them to air their grieviances, instead of going on the defensive, plugging their ears, and meting out a punishment that’s reserved for REAL delinquents.

It easy to utter worthless and meaningless words. On the contrary, it is hard to put into words things with profound meaning.
To say that our “young children’ considering that they are already in high school need to be deisciplined for aireing the truth, defeats the essence of free speech. I consider, to say the least that these children’s opinion is untainted and unblemished, voicing their view of their school surrounding and their obnoxious Administration. Their opinion are based on facts on they have seen. Do you want them to lie?
Unlike our government who always are generally considered consumate liars, these children merely wanted a CHANCE. Would it be wrong to crave for improvement or for betterment?
Do not ever belittle the minds of the young for even Peter the Great of Russia, their Emperor; led his army to many victories at a young age.
Joan of Arc was less than 16 years old when she won military victories during the French-Anglo 100 years war.
Even our Lord Jesus, once lost in Bethlehem was found in the temple discoursing with priest.
Let us not corrupt their minds with falsehood.

Let us not patronize these School Administrators whoes fickle mind can not even discern that the toilet in so many public school is so few in relation to the student populace.
And sanitation and health of our children is at risk.
DOM
Its the idea to keep the young stupid. They put the retired military wisdom in government anyway. And there’s plenty of them around some skirt.

The illegitimate president seemed like she is very effectively setting an example for the rest of her lot to follow.
Sadly this has now become the culture of our land, have no accountability, silence democracy and be smug about it. People who are decent enough not to do it suffer.

School is an institution of learning.
It is where children are secluded and confined for one day to hone the foundation of becoming good citizens, that’s why there is subject called good manners and right conduct.
Just like in military school where discipline is the name of a game to become good soldiers, where silence is the trait inculcated, imagine if soldiers were taught to disobey.
Just like in school, children are bound to obey without question.
Their minds are still fresh to be filled with harsh realities of this world.
We should feed them with goodness.
As these kids were still in high school, it means they are not yet of legal age.
Come college time where kids knows what is right or wrong, there is academic freedom to voice out and express one’s disgust.
For the meantime, let impose discipline where discipline should be in these high schoolers.
The school knows better as these kids are in home away from home….
And what that means, obey and not disobey.

Kids are kids.
They are in high school, they are still kids.
There is proper time to air their grievances and it is not yet time.
As they say Children learn what they live.
If a child lives with criticism, he learns to condemn.
If a child lives with hostility, he learns to fight.
At their age, children should live with tolerance for they learn to be patience.
These high schoolers should live with praise, for them to learn to appreciate.
If these kids lives with acceptance and friendship, they find love in this world.
These should be the guiding principle these high school kids.
At sa ating mga matatanda, isipin ninyo ang kasabihan, “Ang bata wag kunsintihin kung mali, lumalaki ang tae.”
Yan ang hirap kung kailan tumanda, tumanda ng paurong.

to mang godo: so high school students should just shut up even if they can clearly see the wrongs committed in their school?
“be young and shut up”–even if you know there is something wrong going on? is this your idea of molding children to be good citizens?

For sure, teachers don’t teach wrong for
High School is an institution for studies, an institution for students to become a law abiding citizens.
They should be disciplined if they are wrong.
They should follow and follow for no one will teach our kids wrong.
